BRAHMS A German Requiem (Op.45) 2 LP set
COLUMBIA SAX 2430 -SAX 2431 original UK pressing 1962
I have acquired a large classical collection of wonderful recordings from a very keen and dedicated collector.
They are all mostly from the late 50s to mid 60s - Something of a Golden Age in Classical recordingAll records are inspected very carefully and
Gradings are based on Record Collector magazine.
I try to only offer recordings in a minimum of excellent Condition unless it is something particularly rare when I will do my best to describe any visual or audible flaws

First Edition pressing on COLUMBIA Turquoise/Silver label
This set comprises 3 sides as SAX 2430 is one sided with
the other etched with the columbia logos (As in photo 2)
Disc One SAX 2430 is visually Excellent audibly plays Excellent with just the occasional very faint ‘tic”
Sleeve is Excellent with just the faint impression of a small S9 in red biro on the rear sleeve next to the title

Disc Two SAX 2431 side 2
is visually Excellent audibly plays Excellent with just the occasional very faint ‘tic”
Side 3 is Visually just under Excellent - there is one faint hairline surface mark towards the end of the band about 5mm that was inaudible on my deck
there was a faint pop for 7 revolutions midway and 2 further faint pops for 2 revs So being very strict lets say VERY GOOD for side 3
DISC two SAX 2431 Sleeve is Excellent with just the faint impression of a small S10 in red biro on the rear sleeve next to the title ( see photo 3)
The German Requiem was completed in 1866 it is the longest
of Brahms orchestral works and perhaps the one that made his reputation.
Observers have suggested the requiem was influenced
by the death of his mother in 1865
and that of Robert Schumann in
1856- But Brahms explained later that he had “the whole of humanity in mind”
Superb recording of a glorious and beautiful work complimented by a striking fully laminated sleeve design -
