SAX 5283 COLUMBIA MAHLER No 4 GEORGE SZELL JUDITH RASKIN CLEVELAND ORCH EX/VG. 1966. Runout matrix numbers MS 6833 A-1E/ B-1E. Label numbers are MS.6833A/B and of course SAX 5283. The disc is in VG/VG+ condition with clean and bright labels and playing surfaces. Both sides play very well and clearly with quiet playing surfaces with minimal background noise apart from a couple of faint clicks/pops for a couple of seconds towards the end of side 1, track 2 and just a few other barely audible clicks here and there. There are a few faintly visible surface scratches/ scuffs on side 1 and side 2 but these seem to be barely audible if at all. The cover is in good/very good, clean and bright condition commensurate with age with just some light surface creases to the laminate and a little tanning to the spine commensurate with the usual exposure to light while stored on shelf. The opening edge has only light signs of wear. The plain inner sleeve is in good, clean and undamaged condition with just a little light surface creasing. A truly wonderful performance of this great symphony with lovely singing by Raskin in the 4th movement. Generally regarded as the finest recording ever of this symphony and one of the greatest highlights of Szell's partnership with the Cleveland Orchestra.
