Description
Scarce 1969 Australian Re-issue of the Beatles landmark 1967 album Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band.
In the late 60's Australia did not have the capability to produce gatefold (double) sleeves so the first stereo press on the new Australian Orange EMI label (replacing the black/yellow Parlophone label used on the original stereo pressings) was issued in UK made Mono gatefold sleeves. A stereo sticker was then placed on the laminated sleeve.....see above photos.
All future re-issues of this album were produced with single sleeves only!
This issue of the album rates a 6 out of 10 for rarity on the "I Am The Platypus " labelography and rarity website....see below. It is the 2nd rarest Australian stereo issue after the yellow/black Parlophone issues of 1967.
