PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question. OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In the unlikely instance that you feel the need to open a resolution dispute before working with us, you will immediately be blocked from any further chance to acquire the rare music we present each and every week. Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office. Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has became very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our 8000 plus positive feedback. We use a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. VERY off the beaten path shall we say, Italian limited edition LP from many days before...unearthed a (mint) copy of this previously unreleased 1971 German studio performance, Soft Macjhine at a creative peak as the adventured through their sonic avant-jazz-rock-fusion stage... Robert Wyatt hanging on just months before departure to Magic Mole ...
Soundboard studio quality, "Downbeat" magazine noted it was "essential" listening in catching the Soft Machine in full glory ...
Recorded on March 23, 1971 for Radio Bremen, during the band's final European tour with Robert Wyatt in the lineup, this is a good (and very well-recorded) document of their early-'70s sound. At this point the band, having doubled in size around the Third era, had contracted to a quartet with Wyatt, Mike Ratledge, Hugh Hopper, and saxophonist Elton Dean. Over the course of the LP, they run through all of the material from Fourth, and much of Third: the music that found them tilting toward jazz, rather than rock. Those who are attracted to the band because of Wyatt will find his drumming is here in force, but he contributes no original compositions, and his vocals are limited to a few processed scats. It's challenging, at times demanding listening, especially when Dean goes off into improv territory; numbers highlighting Ratledge's Lowrey organ hit grooves that are more accessible to rock listeners. It's certainly better, from both audio and performance aspects, than the Live at the Proms 1970 release, which features the same personnel.
