Description
Big Walter Horton, King of the Harmonica Players (Delta LP1000) (1972).
This probably limited-edition release on a one-off Swedish label assembles seven of Horton's 1950s recordings, either in his own name (Easy, Have a Good Time/Need My Baby, Back Home to Mama) or accompanying Tampa Red (Evalena) or Sunnyland Slim (It's You Baby/Highway 61), and eight previously unissued recordings made by Clas Ahlstrand in Chicago in 1966 or 1970, some featuring Floyd Jones or Johnny Young (I Hate to See the Sun Go Down, Goin' Back to St. Louis, Crawling King Snake, She Left Me a Mule to Ride etc.). To the best of the seller's knowledge, these 1966-70 recordings have never been issued on CD. Jacket back has large photographs of Horton and Jones.
Condition: disc shows some faint signs of use in runout grooves but no damage. Jacket (which is top-opening) is slightly creased and lightly worn, with slightly bumped corners; back is a little grubby and has some tanning at edges. The small white paper sticker on the front, inscribed "SN", denotes that this copy was previously owned by Simon Napier, founder/editor of Blues Unlimited. Excellent playing copy of this very scarce album.
