SCARCE Monkees Mike Nesmith Promo 45 Just a Little Love 1966 EDAN Label

Extremely rare WLP of this 45.  Commercial copies (also white labels) come up once in a silver moon as it is, but you never ever see the promos for sale.  This 45, issued in 1966, was pre-Monkees, and it’s remarkable how much the music sounds like early Monkees.

The A-Side, Just a Little Love, will sound familiar to Monkees fans who are also musicians, in that it uses a very similar chords to “The Girl I Knew Somewhere,” although the tempo is slower and the structure is different.

The B-Side, credited to Mike & Tony, is a typical electric Bo Diddley instrumental song performed live.  It sounds very much like instrumental background music that was typical in high-action Monkees episodes.

In an interview, according to several articles on the net, Nez confirms that this track is indeed him, but that he has no idea who Tony is.

Sleeve:  Generic white sleeve.

Vinyl:  Just a Little Love VG++ lovely.  Curson Terrace VG+. Shiny, but with hairlines clearly visible under a bare bulb.  This disc was pressed by Monarch Records, and the machine-stamped “MR” in a circle is visible on both sides.  See photos.

Labels: Glossy, but with foxing stains on both sides.  See photos.

Note:  All 45’s ship outside of their sleeves in order not to damage the sleeve during shipment. Generic plain, white sleeves and Mylar provided.

(Please note:  Regarding play-testing, my Technics turntable has somehow seized.  The tone arm is stuck in the up position, and I can’t get it to fully return to its cradle.  Is there anyone out there, who can tell me if this is an easy fix?  Thanks!) 

As these records have been in storage for many years, they will play back with crackling and tics, however; a good moisturizing and cleaning with either D4 Discwasher or a VPI machine always clears them up.  Thanks!)
