ORIGINAL UK 4AD PROMOTIONAL PRESSING (DRIFT 1), (MAY 2006) OF SCOTT WALKER'S "The Drift" 2 LP SET - A SENSATIONAL PIECE OF WORK OF STUNNING SOUNDSCAPES FROM THE UNCOMPROMISING MAVERICK - IN UNPLAYED, MINT CONDITION - A TRULY ASTONISHING LP

Pressed on two quality heavyweight vinyls, all four labels carry the ‘promotional use only’ text and both records are in unplayed condition with no spindle traces or signs of use
The records are housed in the original single matt sleeve (with a very wide spine) with ‘promotional use only’ statement and DRIFT 1 catalogue number (the commercial issue is CAD 2603) - the sleeve is MINT(-) (there is the slightest touch of rubbing to the top back - very, very minor - please see photos)
Complete with the two original thick card inner sleeves (printed ‘SIDE A & B’ and ‘SIDE C & D’ with the promo DRIFT 1 catalogue number) and the full size 24-page photo/lyric booklet with foreword by Ian Penman
The two inner sleeves are MINT (they have never housed the records which are in two plain white poly-lined inners) and the booklet is in untouched MINT condition
Both the records are in unplayed condition (and I will leave them that way) but I know from my own personal copy that this is an aurally stunning piece of work, beautifully recorded with an incredibly impressive sound/soundscapes. There are some light marks present on the surfaces (common on most contemporary releases) but I am sure these will have little (if any) audio consequence. My own copy had similar marks from new and they have no real audio consequence - just the occasional light tick - this is vinyl after all and not a CD and it delivers a warmth and immediacy that a CD can never offer

The Drift is like little else in music.
The melodic austerity, somewhere between plainsong and operatic recitative, may shock fans of Walker's lush 1960s records but, gloriously, The Drift is a record that demands a lot of work and repays tenfold.
Bleak, haunting and disturbed, there is narrative here, but it is fragmented, wrapped in allusion, and both bolstered and distorted by games played with the very shapes and sounds of words.
The music wheezes, thunders and clatters, continuing Walker's experimentation with chords stretched and held to breaking point.
Billowing at its heart, that exquisite voice whose oddly hopeful tenor flails against the death, disease, disappointment and general evil it describes.
There's not a minute of The Drift that isn't utterly thrilling.
Frequently, as in the deathbed scene depicted with heart-meltingly stark elegance in A Lover Loves, it is also simple, human, and moving.
