Released in November 1975, Horses is the debut studio album by American musician Patti Smith. Produced by John Cale (formerly of the Velvet Underground), the album is widely regarded as one of the most influential records in the history of rock music and a foundational pillar of the New York punk rock movement. It famously opens with a reimagining of Van Morrison’s "Gloria," fused with Smith's original poetry. The iconic cover features a portrait taken by her close friend, photographer Robert Mapplethorpe, which became one of the most famous images in rock history for its stark, androgynous style.
💎 CONDITION vinyl: Presumed MINT (unplayed) cover: Factory-sealed, never opened 🧾 NOTES FOR COLLECTORS- This is a genuine first US pressing, distinguished by the white lettering of the word "Horses" on the front cover; many subsequent pressings altered the color or font layout. Finding a 1975 original in its original factory shrink wrap is exceptionally rare, as most copies were opened and played during the height of the CBGB era. The lack of a barcode and the 1776 Broadway address for Arista Records on the back cover confirm its early production status. It remains a "holy grail" for collectors of first-wave punk and 1970s counter-culture.
