Description
This is a factory sealed copy of Journey to the Center of the Earth by Rick Wakeman. This is a rare first pressing with the catalog number SP 3621 still sealed from 1974.
This album was purchased at a New England record shop that closed in late 1984. It has been stored indoors and kept upright since 1984.
Journey to the Center of the Earth was released on A&M Records. It is the third album from English keyboardist Rick Wakeman of the progressive rock band Yes. It is a symphonic rock adaptation of Jules Verne’s 1864 science fiction novel Journey to the Center of the Earth. Wakeman performed with London Symphony Orchestra, the English Chamber Choir conducted by David Measham, a group of pub bandmates and session musicians who became the English Rock Ensemble. Actor David Hemmings narrated the story. Wakeman mortgaged his house and sold possessions to help finance the project. The finished album was not received well by the management at A&M in England and they refused to sell it. American co-owner Jerry Moss heard the album and approved it for release. It was a very commercially successful album and certified Gold in multiple countries.
This is a notable piece of progressive rock history for a collector. And way cool to know it has been sealed for over 40 years!
Condition: The shrink is in great shape overall with some expected wear in the corners. Overall it's holding together very well. Features the original handwritten price sticker from the record shop.
The cover has some slight wear on the corners due to it being moved on the shelf (see photos). The cover is fairly straight with no noticeable bends (see photos). Excellent condition overall.
The vinyl is brand new old stock and never been opened.
