ORIGINAL 1968 UK POLYDOR PRESSING OF THE GROUP'S TRULY MINDBLOWING DEBUT LP HOUSED IN FAKE 'SECOND HAND' SLEEVE!!!
ULTRA RARE 1st LP from 1968 by this absolutely legendary UK heavy acid psychedelic / progressive underground group. This is the original 1st UK press, earliest matrix A1/B1, housed in fake, to look used when new, "second hand" laminated sleeve!!!
SECOND HAND "Reality" LP, on the UK Polydor label, 583045, from 1968. I've only seen a handful for sale on ebay. This is a genuine rarity and it might be a long time until another one shows up. This is the very rare, great and totally amazing original UK 1st pressing on Polydor of this classic freak-out psych / prog monster album!! If you like groups such as King Crimson, Jimi Hendrix, Procol Harum, late period Small Faces, Pretty Things (S.F Sorrow), Arthur Brown's Kingdom Come, Pink Fairies, Deviants etc..etc.. you will LOVE this record ! Very Highly Recommended . The vinyl is in superb EXCELLENT + condition, only very lightly played, and the cover has PRINTED ON ring-wear, and creases IN THE ARTWORK !! - NOT FROM IMPROPER STORAGE - and is made to look like a hospital report in a ragged, dog-earred cover. This is the very 1st pressing with A1/B1 matrix numbers and as all serious collectors will know it also features a sleeve which is DELIBERATELY made to look worn... i.e. SECOND HAND!! Genius! Don't let the cover fool you, it was made to look "used", hence the name, "Second Hand".
Truly awesome UK 60's acid psychedelia / prog freakout album. Very rare album that never turns up in this state any more!!
The vinyl is visually and aurally in STUNNING EXCELLENT+ condition, plays SUPERBLY virtually MINT sound throughout!! The cover has a few laminate creases, marks and small scuffs, these are mainly near the edges, but given that this 'diogenetic attempts' designed sleeve is actually made to look like a worn cover with ringwear it does not detract. The sleeve is difficult to grade due to the original "Second Hand" design.....I will grade it at VG+ verging on EX.
THIS FABULOUS LP IS INDEED EXTREMELY RARE, VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND IN SUCH EXCELLENT CONDITION THESE DAYS, SO DON'T MISS OUT ON THIS MASSIVELY RARE OPPORTUNITY TO OWN ONE OF THE MOST REVERED AND SEMINAL BRITISH 1960'S PSYCH / PROG ALBUMS EVER MADE!!!

RIGHT THEN.......AS PREVIOUSLY STATED THIS 'INFAMOUS' 60's COVER IS MEANT TO LOOK SECOND HAND AND SCUFFED!!!!! ALL THE MADE UP RINGWEAR IS MAINLY SEALED UNDER THE LAMINATE….. ITS SUPPOSED TO LOOK SECOND HAND…....COMPLETE WITH 'FAKE' RINGWEAR.....CRAZY BUT BRILLIANT 60's CONCEPT!!!.......THIS IS A VG+ NEAR EXCELLENT COPY.......
Please bear in mind that this 1st press 'Ernest J. Day' printed sleeve is designed to look battered so it's very hard to grade accurately!! I would say this is VG+ verging on EX. It does have a few laminate creases, scuff marks on the front, some wear near the seams and on the spine. But at 41 years of age it's bound to have some!! As is usual the cover has some little colour fading as it started out with. The condition is STRICTLY graded at VG+ near EX. As stated before the surface of the sleeve is SUPPOSED to look worn, so ignore the ringwear in the photo!! The front of the sleeve just has a few laminate creases, mostly light, otherwise clean and crisp. The spine has some creases and rubbing, the catalogue number is visible but the album name has nearly rubbed away but not through the laminate. The back has a few more small creases, otherwise clean and crisp. All edges are fully intact, with a nice straight opening edge. There is light wear on the corner tips. There is no writing or stickers on the record or the sleeve. Overall a very nice copy of this infamous "Second Hand" sleeve. Please see picture provided to help. You will be VERY pleased to win this LP in this condition! As a former collector myself I try my very best to grade strictly.
Labels: Mint-
The Polydor MATT RED labels are in MINT- condition maintaining their original bright vibrant red colour…....All the text on both sides is UNMARKED and CLEARLY READABLE…NO unwanted writing, NO sticker marks, NO spindle hole wear OR spindle traces at all!!! AMAZING !!! This LP has had very little play!!!
Vinyl: Excellent +
The heavy 1960's Polydor pressed vinyl is in truly EXCELLENT + condition, maintaining all it's original gleaming shine and lustre, the record plays superbly, with only minimal light static, mainly on run in and occasionally inbetween tracks, the quality of the stereo is SUPERB, playing with clear, crisp clarity, whilst delivering a great depth and warmth. THE VINYL IS IN BRILLIANT CONDITION, IT RETAINS ALL IT'S FULL GLOSS AND LUSTRE WITH THAT 'JUST PRESSED' LOOK.… BOTH SIDES OF THIS RARE RECORD ARE FREE FROM ANY OBVIOUS VISIBLE SCUFFS OR MARKS I CAN SEE IN DAYLIGHT…Under a strong light you can see just a few feint wispy hairlines.
Essentially this GREAT record plays very near MINT with only some VERY slight touches of playback static in a couple of places. The record must grade EXCELLENT+!!!
The audio is CRYSTAL CLEAR, STRONG and VIBRANT - A BEAUTIFUL LP. There are NO jumps, NO sticks, NO scratches and only a few very, very feint wispy hairlines visible under a strong light. It is great to find that the playing of the record is as STUNNING as the visual!!!! It plays near perfectly with NO sticking, NO jumps, NO hiss and only a little light crackle on the run in grooves. The sound quality is simply AWESOME with NO distortion and NO groovewear either!!!! I believe it would be very difficult to find a better condition copy!!
PLAYS BRILLIANTLY.......A GREAT COPY OF THIS LEGENDARY PSYCH LP!!
ADDITIONAL NOTES
On offer here, from my own collection, is a very rare LP (especially in this condition!!!!) by Second Hand called 'Reality' and is a 1968 Stereo UK Original!!
"REALITY" by the manic SECOND HAND, released in 1968 on POLYDOR RECORDS - 583 045. This is one of those classic albums that the period has thrown up - definitely not for the soft hearted - this is 'difficult' music, ranging from the magnificent pairing of the heavyweight MAINLINER and REALITY with it's hard drugs warning, to the wonderful RHUBARB 1 with it's great lead guitar, to the superb opener A FAIRY TALE where Ken Elliot's vcals could be described (by some!) as almost beautiful. This is a great LP for many reasons and if you have never heard it - check it out! It's taken the world until today to appreciate how far ahead as well as far out, this LP was. The big sound here is VERY BIG, a great production, but just not to everyone's taste - there is so much going on I suppose! I found this copy in the early seventies and it was second hand - now there's a coincidence. The sleeve which as we all know was designed to look damaged (idea copied later by ARC), has infact got a small amount of real creasing in the laminate and has lost colour in a couple of small spots. The vinyl has barely been played, and is virtually mint, great clear sound throughout - it is so loud! A classic and great album, most probably genuinely ahead of it's time. From 1968 on the Polydor record label comes this stunning psych/prog LP by Second Hand entitled "Reality" (Polydor 583 045).The first album by this band of excellent musicians still holds its ground after 41 years! It's unusual mixture of poetic psych with Hendrixy or Arthur Brownish heavy episodes and progressive structures is highly inventive. Lovely arrangements and above average compositions makes this highly recommended. 10 killer tracks especially 'A Fairy Tale' (great mellotron) and the trippy title track. Comes with the fake effect 'worn' (ie secondhand) cover. It sounds awesome and is highly recommended by the psychedelic Bible 'The Tapestry Of Delights'.
Second Hand were a somewhat obscure British psychedelic band from the late 1960s, though even on this, their first record from 1968, they were showing progressive touches earlier than most bands. This great LP isy much more of a long lost psych classic than prog (it was only 1968 when made). A real mixture of influences can be heard. Vocals reminiscent of late 60's Arthur Brown. Musicianship sounds akin at times to Hendrix or maybe even the psychedelic period Small Faces. Despite the sometimes sloppy musicianship and muddy sound lies some highly interesting tracks, all of which have a certain amount of added humour and general weirdness to make this the gem it undoubtedly is! More keyboard dominated than guitar, the album goes from flower power style to doomy freakouts. Some tracks even benefit from an orchestral backing which works well. This sits somewhere between early Pink Fairies 'Never Never Land', and King Crimson's earlier work, and is indispensible massively psychedelic-tinged prog and in my honest opinion, any fans of Late 60's Pink Floyd, Pretty Things (Sorrow period), Procol Harum, Arthur Brown, King Crimson, Pink Fairies, Deviants or generally anything underground from '67-'69, would LOVE this album.
"REALITY" IS A CLASSIC AND SEMINAL UK 60's PSYCHEDELIC LP!!
