Title:  Serge Gainsbourg  – Histoire De La Melody Nelson

Original French pressing from 1971 on PHILIPS,6397 020.Beautiful laminated foldout-cover with Mademoiselle Jane Birkin posing on the front(she also did the female vocals).

Line-up: Alan Hawkshaw/piano - Alan Parker/guitar - Brian Odgers/bass - Douglas Wright/drums

Orchestra cond. by Jean-Claude Vannier.Female vocals by Jane Birkin.

Tracks: side 1: Melody - Ballade De Melody Nelson - La Valse De Melody - Ah Melody

side 2: L'Hotel Particulier - En Melody - Cargo Culte.

“Concept Album” built around a slow funky bass-riff,this “suite” has fat and tight drumming, sexy female vocals plus Gainsbourgs more spoken than sung lyrics, trippy guitars, lush string-background to full orchestral and choral madness, spacey organ interludes by A.Hawkshaw, dark and spooky atmospheres, jazzy prog instrumental parts as well as some proto-punk riffs, romantic and morbid moods plus much more.A unique,one-of-a-kind record, considered by many to be Gainsbourgs masterpiece. Please look for the rare 1969 J.Hallyday & 1971 J.Dutronc LPs in my auctions!
