The combination of Zooey Deschanel's dulcet tones and M. Ward's tasteful arrangements have naturally led She & Him towards the realms of standards and show tunes, and indeed the duo have proven themselves more adept and adroit than most at essaying these careworn ditties with particular finesse. Therefore the release of Classics offers the twosome the chance to go for broke in a manner just so, from Ward's take on Charles Aznavour's "She" to Deschanel's sultry take on "Oh No, Not My Baby". Many would wonder whether there could be anything added to these songs after the plethora of renditions already committed to posterity, but 'Classics' is here to prove them wrong in style.
