In case you didn’t know……..

Ebay requires the seller of any auction which also offers a Buy It Now [BIN] option to set the BIN price at least 40% higher than the auction start price. In this case, that means the quoted BIN price has to be at least £6.00 more than the auction start price (so £21.00 at minimum) to meet that requirement.

BUT, if you win this auction using the BIN option and complete payment within 2 days, I’ll take £5.00 off my BIN price - by giving you a Paypal refund - so you can win any one of these excellent quality autographed vinyl albums immediately and for only £16.00 - that's just £1.00 more than the auction start price.

This auction is ANY ONE of five original vinyl albums shown here/listed below and all personally signed by Shirley - now Dame Shirley - Bassey in the late 1980s. If you win this auction, please state which album you want. Should more than one be required, please win the auction and then ask for details.

These releases comprise songs mostly recorded between 1959 and the mid/late 1960s when the Cardiff-born songstress was recording with EMI’s Columbia label. It was the period when her career started to accelerate and, during this time, she was a regular visitor to the studios, where she recorded dozens and dozens of classic songs.

However, in this period, Shirley only released six original studio albums, so many of the songs recorded remained as effectively out-takes, some of which were released as non-album singles, while many others found their way onto the mass of compilations that EMI released after she moved to the United Artists label in the mid/late 1960s.

These compilations were, on the whole, not promoted seriously, so didn’t sell very well and, as a result, most of them were deleted fairly quickly.

With the rise of compact discs (CDs), many of Shirley’s earlier songs have found their way onto new CD compilations, but the sheer number of her recordings means that many of the songs have yet to become available in this format, with those that do emerging in ones and twos alongside better-known titles.

Indeed, the size of her vinyl/pre-CD back catalogue is so large that there have to be question marks over how many of those original songs may not ever make it to CD. And, just to “muddy the waters”, tracking down those of her recordings that have yet to be released on CD is now an even more painstaking job, as she has recorded updated/new versions of quite a number of her earlier songs.

This means that, for the serious Bassey enthusiast seeking to build as complete a collection of her recorded work as possible, CD releases are likely - at least for the time being - to need augmenting with vinyl releases, and the selection offered here is likely to fill a number of the non-CD gaps.

Potential buyers should however note that, in the absence of a full list of Shirley’s CD releases and their tracks, the seller cannot guarantee that any of the

songs on the records offered here are not available somewhere on a CD recording in the UK, or elsewhere in the world.

The albums in the selection offered here are a mixture of original recordings (one of them a re-issued version) and compilations, which were all were bought new in the late 1960s and early/mid 1970s, and have been played no more than an average of 5 times, after being recorded to cassette for ongoing listening.

However, all of these records are a bit special in a way that the Dame’s admirers would readily appreciate, because they’ve been autographed - see photos - by the lady herself,

something she was more than happy to do when the current owner, an avid Bassey admirer, visited her at the Dorchester Hotel during one of her late 1980s visits to London.

Regarding general quality…

all ten sides of these 40 to 45 year old records are in excellent or similar condition, spinning smoothly on the turntable with none of the “up/down” rippling seen on some older records. All of them also retain much of the lustre usually just seen on new vinyl, while some of them still exude a certain amount of static when removed from their lined inner sleeves.

The sound quality is first class, noticeably clear, full and sharp with just the occasional instance of surface noise during or between the songs, and virtually no extraneous sound in any of the run-ins and run-outs. Moreover, the label areas are very clean/bright with just minimal marks around their spindle holes.

Specifically, the other details of these five albums - which are all in excellent or better overall condition - are as follows:

IMPORTANT AUCTION TERMS!

Please take a moment to read my terms below, and ask any questions BEFORE bidding.

PAYMENT

I accept payment via PayPal ONLY, so a PayPal account is required for you to bid and, as I require payment to be completed within 4 days of auction close, you MUST HAVE SUFFICIENT FUNDS in your (Paypal) account at the time of the auction closing, because payment by e-cheque - the way Paypal makes payments when there are insufficient funds to make an instant payment - will not usually arrive within the 4 days I allow. Please do not ask me to make an exception in your case as I no longer respond to these requests and have made my payment preferences clear at the start of this paragraph.

You may bid on multiple auctions ending on different days if the last auction ends seven days or less after the first. If you are bidding or want to bid on more than one of my auctions, please let me know after you win the first item/auction, so I know to delay sending your invoice until you tell me that you have finished bidding, You may pay for items at any time, but if you win multiple items you must then ensure that you complete full payment for them within four days of my sending the final invoice.

If payment is not received within the specified time and via the payment method I have specified, the item may go to the next highest bidder or be relisted. If appropriate I will file non-paying bidder alerts with Ebay in order to recover my final value fees & will block that bidder from my future auctions and - if payment is only received as a result of my filing non-paying bidder - I will not accept a return or offer a refund if you subsequently have a complaint.

If you have a problem that may delay payment please let me know. I am a nice seller, but I don't like to be mucked about or have my payment terms ignored.

POSTAGE & SHIPPING

Postage rates are specified on each auction. (Not advised, but parcel post and surface mail rates are avaiIable if desired-please ask). I always weigh items for postage costs, and allow a bit extra for the packaging. I put a lot of effort and care into packaging, and often use custom, cut to fit sturdy cardboard, tubes, etc.. that has given excellent delivery results over the past 6 years. I will be happy to combine multiple purchases and hopefully be able to reduce the postage costs on your total. Royal Mail includes compensation cover (insurance) free on values currently up to £40 and, in some circumstances. I may add insurance on items over that amount for my own protection and yours.

I now normally ship twice a week, on Tuesdays and Fridays (if a holiday then the following day). Your package will usually be posted no later than the first Tuesday or Friday following payment, and I shall notify you when it has been mailed.

Thanks for looking and happy bidding. For more info on my auctions please see my Ebay "About Me" page.
