A stunning superb folk/ folk rock album which probably is in everyone's top ten for English folk albums. The list of personnel collaborating on this LP represents a who is who in English folk with various members of Fairport and Steeleye for example chipping in.

Shirley Collins' collaboration with the Albion Country Band for No Roses is considered a major event in the history of British folk and British folk-rock. For it was the first time that Collins, roundly acknowledged as one of the best British traditional folk singers, sang with electric accompaniment, and indeed one of the first times that a British traditional folk musician had "gone electric" in the wake of Dave Swarbrick joining Fairport Convention and Martin Carthy joining Steeleye Span. The album itself doesn't sound too radical, however. At times it sounds something like Fairport Convention with Shirley Collins on lead vocals, which is unsurprising given the presence of Ashley Hutchings on all cuts but one, and Richard Thompson and Simon Nicol on most of the selections (Dave Mattacksplays drums on a few tracks for good measure). The nine songs are almost wholly traditional tunes with Collins' arrangements, with perhaps a jauntier and folkier mood than that heard in early-'70s Fairport, though not much. It's more impressive for Collins' always tasteful smoky vocals than for the imagination of the material, which consolidates the sound of the more traditional wing of early-'70s British folk-rock. VINYL : EX++. A stunning very heavy (151 gr.) barely or unplayed vinyl without any issues. NO hairlines, NO marks. Only very wispy paper retraction traces seen under a very strong light. There is not any vinyl without these, even new. The replay on my top end system is second to none and this would be an ultimate upgrade for this very collectible album. NO jumps or sticks, played through in its entirety, a very enjoyable experience.

Foldout Sleeve: EX++ to NM.  A lovely gatefold style sleeve without any issues and this sleeve really is as good as it possibly can get. This was produced to have that ancient antique look. I have never seen a better one than this and it will be a jewel in any psych/folk collection. The spine is 100%, the opening is super crisp. The edges unworn and the colours are as rich as on the first day of issue.

 LABELS: NM.   Not any spindle traces. Unplayed?

VINYL TESTED FOR ANY SIGNS OF WARPING:

Yes, NONE visible what so ever when tested be sight and on a moving turntable. This is a very heavy vinyl pressing.
