Description
Back in 1980, my business partner Dare and I decided to create a label, as a spin-off from our indie record store...we both had girlfriends who were lead singers in bands, and our recently separated Radio Birdman mates had formed bands, along with other friends who'd done the same...and we loved them all, but no major label was gonna touch them...so Phantom Records the label, was born...and lasted until the late '90's. Now that whole deal's not something I'm specifically crowing about here...more just so you undertsand why I own an item like this...and in fact, KNOW the details of its existence.
So anyway, this record below is something I've held onto since it first came into my hands back then:

CATALOGUE #: PH-31 .
PRESSED IN: Australia .
DATE: Sept. 1988 .
Comes in its original plain white die-cut paper sleeve. Record has plain white labels, with very basic info handwritten on 'A' side (in black pen)...and the other label is blank.
This was cut at EMI Records' cutting room, in Castlereagh Street, Sydney, by legendary cutting engineer Don Bartley (he'd cut Australian releases of everything from The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Queen, etc.....legend!). And it's the never-used 1st of three different cuts of the 'A' side (the 'B' side cut is the same) - visually obvious by the different run-off groove engravings - see below:
FIRST CUT - 'A' side (this one): PH31-A SMX 69639 then DB then 8ATHIRD CUT - 'A' side (as eventually released): PH31--A--3 LZ SMX 69639 then 8E
And audibly obvious in the thicker muddier sound, which was why it was re-cut (don't worry, the song itself stills rings clear...and loud!).
The 'other' legendary EMI cutting room engineer, Leon Zervos, cut the released version (hence the 'LZ' initials).
Only 4 of this test pressing were made....and I'm pretty sure the band members were given the other 3. Regardless, I'd only kept this one for all these years.
CONDITION:
COVER/VINYL: ( - / VG[+] )...has a few light marks only and plays well, with some crackles though...
LABELS: (Side One: M- / Side Two: MINT )...
