Offered is a signed LP titled "REMEMBER MY NAME" - Original Soundtrack Recording Featuring Alberta Hunter. COLUMBIA JC 35553 STEREO, 1978. The jacket is in very good condition, the vinyl is very good with some shallow scuff marks that may or may not be audible, in a plain toned sleeve.
CAVEAT: In viewing the record surfaces under a lamp's light and rotating the record slowly and angling it, the scuff marks disappear, meaning that the grooves have not been damaged so there is no light reflection from the angled grooves as a scratch would show. If the scuff marks create a sound it should be almost inaudible. But I cannot guarantee that the record will play silently.
Photo 8 shows the whole surface of Side 1 and I've over-highlighted it to show you what it looks like but the actual surface is dark and glossy. Photo 9 shows a scuff mark that is not always visible, depending on the angle of the record under a light. Photo 10 is of Side 2 again overhighlighted. Photo 11 shows how black and glossy the record really is for both sides. Photo 12 shows a scuff mark explained for Photo 9.
Alberta Hunter was a pioneering black American popular singer whose path crossed the streams of jazz, blues and pop music. While she made important contributions to all of these stylistic genres, she is claimed exclusively by no single mode of endeavor. Hunter recorded in six decades of the twentieth century, and enjoyed a career in music that outlasted most human lives.
Although the cover on this soundtrack to the Columbia Pictures film (starring Geraldine Chapman, Anthony Perkins and Jeff Goldblum) album makes it look as if this is a soundtrack album (the singer had written several songs for the film "Remember My Name"), this is actually an important studio set. Alberta Hunter, a veteran of the 1920s who was 82 at the time, was at the beginning of a remarkable comeback after having been out of music for 20 years (working as a nurse). The singer is absolutely delightful and often saucy on such numbers as "You Reap Just What You Sow," "I've Got A Mind To Ramble," "My Castle's Rockin'" and "Downhearted Blues," making this her definitive late-period album.
