For reasons unknown Mercury Records picked up the option on the Reuben Klamer-produced sessions and released this album four months after the initial promotional release on Hairy Records (see elsewhere), although it is worth noting that Klamer was the man behind the Hawk Model Company itself, and whilst he played no actual part in these recordings he accepted production credit due to his initial conception for the releases. The difference between the two albums being that the six tracks credited to the Weird-Ohs on the original release were removed (and subsequentluy issued on their own simultaneous album) and another half dozen songs credited to the Silly Surfers were swiftly recorded and added. The truth is, of course, it made no difference at all. as they were all recordings from the same studio session team, featuring Gary Usher and his ever-reliable sidekicks (although the individual players differed between sessions), but it guaranteed twice as many potential sales ! Of the six ‘new’ offerings for this album, they all follow the same novelty pattern as before, with “Hearse On A Surfari” and “Monster Surfer Hangin’ Six” sounding like outtakes from Usher’s own Ghouls album, with Dick Burns over-the-top Bela Lugosi-antics at the forefront once again. “Wave Hog”, featuring Chuck Girard, is one of the better efforts from these sessions, and “Hot Dogger Ridin’ The Wake” could actually be taken seriously were it on another of Usher’s more recognised albums … so there IS potential for further listening, and it is noticeably more acceptable than the limited selection featured on the Hairy Records release. Now, to complete the sessions, one only has to spend endless hours trawling the bargain bins, specialist sites ... or wherever you can, to find the somewhat rarer partner-in-crime ... The New Sounds Of The Weird-Ohs (reviewed elsewhere)" I offer very low combined Shipping and Handling charges, US media rate for up to three 12" records is $2.98 USD, To Canada for up to three 12" records is $7.50 USD, World wide rate for up to three 12" records is $14.00 USD.
