SIMON AND GARFUNKEL, Sounds of Silence, original 1st issue flip 

back CBS mono 1966 UK LP.

BPG 62690, original first issue 1966 UK Orange mono CBS record labels.

A first issue 1966 UK mono copy in original condition, featuring:

1. earliest original first issue mono ‘flip back’ sleeve, ie the rear of the sleeve features three ‘fold over’ edges. These very first ‘flipback’ sleeves were made by, ‘E J Day’. The sleeve is made of the period, quality ‘thicker’ card. Only a small number of these ‘flip back’ sleeves were made before the ‘flip back’ design was no longer used,

2. original first issue 1966 UK mono record made of the period quality, ‘thick heavy’ vinyl,

3. earliest original 1966 UK CBS mono, Orange ‘textured’ and ‘ridged’ record labels. The ‘ridges’ are 5mm in, from the outer edge of each label,

4. each of the record labels feature the earliest missing text of just, ‘33’. The record labels were soon corrected to read, ‘33 1/3’,

5. the records factory engraved matrix reference of ‘BPG’, is missing from the ‘run off’ groove,

6. comes with its original period UK 1966, ‘CBS’ advertising inner sleeve.

CONDITION:

THE MAIN SLEEVE: is in excellent++ condition, the front of the sleeve is laminated. The near perfect front laminate has NO ‘thumb’ creases. The two opening edges are excellent and have remained clean and sharp. The spine is in excellent condition and has remained clean and straight and all of the text on the spine is clear to read. The rear of the sleeve features the original UK, tri ‘flip back’ design, ie ‘fold over’ edges. There are NO tears, splits or sticker residue to the sleeve. On the front, top left corner there is a small white sticker. On the rear top left there are a set of initials written in blue pen. On the rear bottom right there is a name written in blue pen.

THE INNER SLEEVE: is in excellent++ condition and is the original period ‘CBS’ UK 1966 Orange advertising inner sleeve. The two opening edges are excellent and have remained clean and sharp. Theres NO pen writing, tears, stickers or sticker residue to the inner sleeve. There is a very slight split to the centre bottom edge.

THE RECORD: side one, tracks one and five are in excellent condition, tracks two, three and four are in very good condition. Side two, tracks one and six are in excellent condition and tracks two, three, four and five are in excellent++ condition. Note - the condition of the playing surfaces have been graded under normal daylight conditions. The record is made from the period 1960s quality thick, heavy vinyl. The record has remained very dark and glossy.

The records ‘engraved’ matrix are: side one – 62690 A4, also the letters of, ‘CT’ and ‘C’ , I think it is are engraved onto the ‘run off’ groove. Side two - 62690 B3, also the letters of, ‘AT’ and C’ , I think it is are engraved onto the ‘run off’ groove.

THE AUDIO: side one, I did hear some ‘crackle’ on the ‘intro’ to track one and a few ‘pops’ at the end of track one and some light ‘ticks’ at the end of track two and for the first minute some light ‘ticks’ onto track three, so I will grade these tracks as playing very good, otherwise the rest of side one plays excellent. Side two plays excellent. The record plays with a full powerful period ‘mono’ sound. The record lays flat on the turntable.

THE RECORD LABELS: each of the record labels are in near MINT condition. Each of the record labels are free from any pen writing, stickers or sticker residue.

PACKING - ALL RECORDS ARE POSTED WITH MULTI LAYERED CARD STIFFENERS FOR PROTECTION. BEFORE POSTING, THE RECORD IS REMOVED FROM THE RECORDS ORIGINAL INNER AND OUTER SLEEVE, THE RECORD IS THEN PUT INTO A SECOND PAPER INNER SLEEVE TO MINIMISE ANY DAMAGE THAT MAY OCCUR WHILE IN TRANSIT. THE RECORD / SLEEVES ARE THEN PUT INTO A NEW PLASTIC SLEEVE FOR FURTHER PROTECTION.
