WOW!!! WOW!!! WOW!!! MEGARARE and HARD-TO-FIND original Mercury Records very first Mono PROMOTIONAL press released by Mercury Records, made and distributed in Chile in 1970 by Discos Philips (Philips Records, uncredited), licensed from Mercury Records, USA, catalog number 6052 046, with hand etched matrix numbers 6052-046-A EB in Side A and 6052-046-B- -EB- in Side B, with traditional blue/silver Philips Records labels of the period and 3-prong push-out center. Yes, Sirs, ANOTHER FIND from Chile!!!

“Nuevo Laredo” was originally released in February 1970 by subsidiary Mercury Records company Smash Records in USA and the same year we got this single released here in Chile and as you can see we also got an UNIQUE PICTURE SLEEVE, made of a single piece of hard paper folded in the middle, with back cover pasted on the top and bottom flaps of front cover. Both front and back cover keep the same design, a picture of the band with the song titles in Spanish only and the name of the band with title at top mouth edge and the Mercury Records logo and catalog number at bottom right corner and additional small text “Disco Es Cultura” (Record Is Culture) above “Douglas” in back cover. In labels, song titles are written in Spanish only, with full credits for songwriters and Spanish lyricist and additional information about licenses. If you know this single you could have already noticed that original Side B is “I Don't Want To Go Home” but here in Chile we got the song “What About Tomorrow?”, originally released as a single (with “A Nice Song” as Side B) in May 1970. So far I know these songs were released in the same single ONLY IN CHILE. If you also know the records by Sir Douglas Quintet you will know that picture used here in Chile for this single is the same picture of the LP “Together After Five”, released in 1970. But the most important fact to notice and know is that both songs are sung in Spanish and this single was RELEASED IN CHILE ONLY with this UNIQUE WARM RED PICTURE SLEEVE. And as you can see in front cover it’s the stamp “DISCO DE MUESTRA – PROHIBIDA SU VENTA” (Sample Record – Sale Forbidden), which proves this is an authentic promotional copy. So, here you have the chance to get and own this MEGARARE and UNIQUE PRESS of this single by Sir Douglas Quintet, RELEASED ONLY IN CHILE with Spanish-written song titles, UNIQUE COVER, UNIQUE PICTURE SLEEVE, BOTH SONGS SUNG IN SPANISH and PROMOTIONAL, a record almost never seen and only auctioned here in eBay two or three times before. WOW!!! A MUST TO HAVE for all lovers, fans and collectors of Sir Douglas Quintet, Doug Sahm, Augie Meyers and Psych/Country/Blues/Tex-Mex music!!!

The cover was already described and it’s in EX- or even EX condition, clear and still clean, with very light ring marks, light creases, some wear in all edges, more evident in corners and in the mouth edge, with all seams solid, no seam splits at all, which a real miracle for this so fragile kind of cover, with some faint blemishes in front cover. The record is in VG or VG+ condition both sides, glossy and clean, with many soft scuffs, hairlines and some small light scratches, which don’t affect play at all, with push-out center intact. Labels on both sides are in great EX+ or NM- condition, clean and clear, with only minimal spindle hole wear, free of marks of any kind. The sound is in strong EX or even EX+ condition both sides, loud, clear and clean, virtually no background noise (surface noise is normal in records from Chile), with only minimal occasional soft crackles, more evident in the first and last seconds of each song, which of course don’t really cause any distraction from the loud and clear sound this record keeps from the beginning to the end. Overall, sure this record keeps a very nice glossy look, almost immaculate labels and still a superb sound quality after about 51 years, which won’t disappoint anyone!!! And keep in mind now you have the chance to get and own this MEGARARE and UNIQUE PRESS of these classic hits by Sir Douglas Quintet with UNIQUE COVER, UNIQUE WARM RED PICTURE SLEEVE, Spanish-written song titles, PROMOTIONAL and SUNG IN SPANISH and in GREAT CONDITION!!! We don’t use the generic “VG” most of South American sellers use to hide poor quality conditions or “NM” or “Mint” for records which aren’t even clean and sound less than a normal “VG” in professional standards. We use the Record Collector’s Grading System with a little modification: we don’t use MINT grade but for Sealed records and we can use a + or – to show a most professional accurate description.

MINT (M): I only use this grade for Sealed records.

NEAR MINT (NM): The record itself is in like new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality (only some very very very light hairlines caused for the record rubbing the sleeve). The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in like perfect condition.

EXCELLENT (EX): The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality, maybe some surface marks which doesn’t affect play. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

VERY GOOD (VG): The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

GOOD (G): The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.

FAIR (F): The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump.
The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.

POOR (P): The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

BAD (B): The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.
