Thousands of people have been asking what is SKA, who started the SKA and where was it started? In 1956 when 78's became obsolete, sound system operators then and there could not get more of those rhythm and blues tunes, so they decided to produce records locally. Foremost among those operators was Mr Clement " Sir Coxson " Dodd  who first started experimenting with the new beat, which is today recognised as SKA. The purpose of producing these new songs was to provide music which his followers could dance to with ease as well as listen with pleasure.

It was not as easy as it sounds. It took years of study and research to perfect the beat that we now all seem to be enjoying, not only in Jamaica but in other countries as well. In 1957 Mr Dodd variated the then existing beat with emphasis on the off beat produced by the guitar with strumming rhythm, suitably backed by the rest of the band. Our Jamaican hep steppers showed how much they enjoyed this music, thereby giving it the shot in the arm it really deserved.

The record has a few light marks which do not appear to interfere with the sound. Graded VG+

The Sleeve has a split on the spine. There is also a stain on the back which is visible in the photos provided. Graded Good+

RECORD COLLECTORS GRADING SYSTEM + & -. Slightly better or worse than catagory. Code:

M - Mint. The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition.

EX : Excellent. The record shows slight signs of having been played, but there is no lessening in sound quality and the cover and packaging are as new.

VG : very Good. the record has obviously been played quite a few times but displays no major deterioration in sound quality. A slight amount of wear and tear on the cover and extra items is acceptable.

G ; Good. The record still produces a reasonable playing sound but has obviously been played a lot. although showing wear and tear, neither record, cover nor contents display any major defects.

F ; Fair. It is noticable that the record has been so much that the sound quality has detiorated very noticeably. The cover and contents are showing signs of folding, scuffing of edges etc.

P ; Poor. The record is barely playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise and other deterioration in sound quality.

B ;Bad. the record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise etc. the cover and contents are torn, stained defaced or even missing.

POSTAGE & PACKING. I only send out my records in cardboard mailers, with stiffeners if needed. I try to post items paid by paypal on the next working day where possible, sometimes I can even post them the same day you pay for them. I know its nice to get something as soon as possible after you've bought it so I also offer first class postage.

 I visually inspect all my records and where possible play them again, but there are quite a lot so I cant play them all.
