SMALL FACES Original U.K. 1966 12 track mono red label pressing on Decca Records. LK 4790. M-/M
After the Who, the Small Faces were the top Mod band in England in the mid-60s. They consisted of Steve Marriott on guitar & vocals, Ronnie Lane on bass & vocals, Ian McLagan on organ & Kenney Jones on drums. Their early sound could be described as hopped-up R&B meets British Invasion harmonies. Of special interest on this collection are Sam Cooke's "Shake", "Sha La La La Lee" & "What'cha Gonna Do About It"- tracks that are considered classics now but did not register in the U.S. at the time. The group later moved to Andrew Loog Oldham's Immediate Records scoring with a string of hits such as "Itchycoo Park" before Steve Marriott left to form Humble Pie & the group recruited Rod Stewart as lead vocalist. But this LP represents the formative years of a great group. These tracks were only recorded in mono & are presented here in their original form.

Laminated cover has a few minor creases on the lower right corner but is still highly presentable- bright & shiny, graded at M-. Record is MINT with no scratches or scuffs. Played only a few times. Red Decca mono labels are in fine shape (may not be the actual first- but a very early pressing).
