Small Faces : In Memoriam 1Y1 / 2Y1 1st Export Press 1969

This relatively rare first export pressing plays with stunning quality and no interference.  The 'live' S1 plays with real power and depth and S2 plays with outstanding clarity and depth also.  They may only be studio outtakes but they are still very strong and 'The Autumn Stone' especially is a great track.  The vinyl is very clean also and it qualifies as a FINAL UPGRADE album in my opinion.

The laminated cover is in superb condition with barely any wear and the plain white inner just has one small side split but has no marking.

As this was made for export the cover was actually produced in Germany with only the vinyl pressed in the UK.  Following EMIs system you can see it was one of the first off the press with a G1 stamper on both sides.

Visual description

The vinyl is in excellent condition and still has a very strong glossy sheen with no scratches.  There are only a small number of faint hairlines with only a couple that are a little more obvious and a couple of minor mottling areas but this is purely superficial as this no affect on the superb audio.  These small areas are very faint indeed.  The pink Immediate labels are unmarked - S2 has some spindle wear but there is very little on S1.

Play grading  

The spoken intro on S1 has no background and it then proceeds to play with real power from the get go.  In a way I would say the audio has more of a bootleg feel to it as the sonic quality is perhaps not the best.  Maybe a little harsh because it still plays extremely well and the entire side plays with no ticks, clicks, pops or static.  In actual fact I would say the audio quality improves the more it progresses and 'All Or Nothing' is a highlight.  The final track 'Tin Soldier' also plays with stunning quality, a great track.  I still think Mint- is a fair assessment of the audio because like I said there is no actual interference on this side.

The instrumental 'Collibosher' plays with sublime clarity from start to finish with no intrusion at all.  Pure Mint audio.  'Call It Something Nice' is just as impressive with a clarity and depth that could not be improved upon.  'Red Balloon' again plays to the highest standard possible with not even a single dust tick let alone anything worse.  The other instrumental 'Wide Eyed Girl On The Wall' again plays like it has never seen a turntable before (!) and 'The Autumn Stone' ends the album with perfect clarity once more.  Such a great track with a clarity that can only be described 'as new'.  Every track on S2 grades as Mint such is the quality.  Not one minus even!

In summary this first export pressing plays with stunning quality with zero interference.  The clarity, depth and power of the audio is so impressive and the studio 'outtakes' on S2 in particular play with impeccable quality - there is a genuine depth and warmth to these tracks.  In hand with a superb cover this is another FINAL UPGRADE up for auction here.

The Cover & Inner Sleeve

The cover is in lovely condition with hardly any shelf wear.  The edges and thin spine are incredibly clean as are the corners.  Only the bottom right one has a very small corner rub.  The opening edge has only a couple of tiny crimps and the laminated front cover is nigh on perfect with just one small laminate 'lift' top left.  The unlaminated back cover is just as impressive with just one small indent area near the top edge and a couple of faint fingerprint type marks.  A hint of ringwear also but overall Ex++ is more than deserved.

The plain white Patent Applied For inner has just one very small side split and minimal creasing.  It has no marking.

Play tested on my Rega P2 with Rega Carbon Cart / Denon PMA-520AE Amp / B&W 684 Speakers

This record has been cleaned on a Pro-Ject VC-S machine
