THE SMALL FACES – Same *ORIG Immediate LP* IMLP 008 (UK, Mono, 1967)
Happy to present the first SF Immediate album in UK 1st press mono. Never as lauded as Ogden’s or as raw as their Decca debut, it’s status has increased over the years and it is an LP which really grows on you. There are some stone cold classics on here: ‘Get Yourself Together’, ‘Happy Boys Happy’ and ‘Talk To You’ being prime examples.
The original, non-laminated, single format, tri-flipbacked sleeve is in what I consider to be VG+ (Very Good Plus) condition. There’s not much wrong with it and the rear is a top EX with no damage. There’s edge rubs to both top and bottom, a couple of light handling creases to the front and a touch of light ring wear to the front also. The rear is actually quite superb for a non-laminate – retains 95% whiteness. Spine is good too – a few small rubs but most of the text still legible. It’s a notoriously tricky sleeve to find EX or above but this comes in at above average and although not perfect is still very satisfactory.
The original lilac Immediate labels show moderate spindle evidence to both sides. No writing, tears, stickers or residue though.
The medium-heavy vinyl has evidently seen some plays and shows some light marking to both sides (not heavy and not conspicuous). Mainly soft, thin hairlines and a smattering of scuff lines too. Visually grades a true and honest VG+ (Very Good Plus). It is still an attractive disc but if you’re after cosmetic perfection then maybe it’s not for you. IT HAS BEEN CAREFULLY LISTENED TO and plays just fine and above the visual grade. NO snap, crackle or pops, NO repeated clicks, distortion or loss of clarity. You will hear some light surface on the dead wax and between tracks but this never interferes with the music. I picked up the occasional soft tick too which most sellers wouldn’t even bother mentioning. Plays loud and clear without sticks, jumps or groove wear. Nice!
