MEGA-RARE FACTORY SAMPLE
Labels: Purple labels, bright with no damage, some spindle marks visible under bright light magnification. Record 1, Side 1 label has Factory Sample sticker partially removed. Record 2, Side 2 label has a similar sticker, intact. Mode: Stereo Original Year of Release: 1969Catalogue Number: IMAL 02
Outer Sleeve: Double gatefold - all colours fresh and bright .
Front: No major imperfections or damage at all - very slight feathering to the open edge, gentle rubwear to the top and bottom edges and the extremities of the open edge. Small split starting at the bottom of the open edge where there is also a small crease. Very faint evidence of ringwear.
Rear: Very slight ringwear and gentle feathering to the open edge with rubwear to the top/bottom edges. A few impressions in the centre that the sleeve has been used as a support for writing. These can only be seen in the correct light.
Centrefold: Ringwear showing through in places and some gentle handling wear but no damage.
Spine: More or less rigid, but with several tint fine-line creases. Rubwear has removed about40% of the surface paper, however, all text is legible and uneffected except for the label name at the top which is partially obscured. Rounding to the extremities.
Inners: White
Matrices: Record #1: 1Y-3G, 2Y-2G, Record #2: 1Y-4G, 2Y-2G
Vinyl Weight: 140gms
Vinyl Condition & Grading: There are minimal marks generally on the vinyls with the exception of Record #2, Side 2 where there are some markings over tracks 1 & 2. This does increase the surface noise but I could only hear a slight difference at very high volume. With tracking surface noise overall which can generally only be heard between tracks, and then pretty low, the albums play superbly with no damage, only the very occasional tick displaying its age. Album Played For Grading: Yes. (Equipment: Linn Sondek LP12, Linn Ekos arm, Linn K9 moving coil cartridge, tracking at 2 grams into a Cambridge Audio Azur 340A amp and out to a pair of Bose speakers with a Super Woofer)

The Autumn Stone was the only double LP in the history of Immediate Records, and it came out as the company was entering its death throes, a desperate effort to cash in -- or, to use a term that's become popular in the 21st century -- "monetize" their library of tapes on the Small Faces. When lead singer Steve Marriott quit in the waning days of 1968, the group had been midway into recording a new album that would have been its third for the label, and a follow-up to 1968's popular Ogden's Nut Gone Flake. Left high and dry by Marriott's departure, with an uncertain future ahead for the group, the company elected to release the first anthology of the Small Faces' work. The result was The Autumn Stone, a mix of hit singles (going all the way back to their Decca Records years, with "Whatcha Gonna Do About It" and "All or Nothing") and up through their final 45, "The Universal," plus three songs recorded live at Newcastle Town Hall in early 1968, a bunch of album tracks, and some unissued tracks from the tail end of their history, presumably intended for the never-finished third Immediate LP. It was the first (and, for over 20 years, the best) overview of the group's work and history, depicting its transition from a white British Invasion-era soul band to a more laid-back and experimental psychedelic outfit.
