Recorded during the Sodomania tour in April and May of 1988.

The original cover art was censored, and CD versions of the album have a black cover with a white circle featuring the band logo, title, and a notation about the inclusion of a bonus track, which is:
14. Conjuration [5:26]

The booklet is a one-sheet folded cover, easily reversible revealing the cover as it "should be"; leaving it to the purchaser to decide which front cover to use.

With a damn near perfect mix (the bass actually nearly drowns out the guitar for once during the verses & choruses, with the solos rising higher to be heard) and a good solid choice of material from all their releases at the time, Sodom showcased their tighter and more mature approach on this album in style.

The drums are loud and booming, and unfortunately this shows the time issues Chris Witchhunter often had with the rest of the band. He often rushes ahead of the rest of the band, making them sound more than a bit off-kilter at times. Other than that, his hard-hitting enthusiasm really carries the songs to a new level of power and aggression, and his drum solo in the middle of "Obsessed By Cruelty" is actually pretty damn good. Frank Blackfire's technical expertise also assists to this end, adding a more professional edge to their otherwise raw sound--his guitar solo section is pretty impressive. Tom, well, he sounds like Tom Angelripper, spitting his angry and venomous vocals over his "set controls to ANNIHILATE" fuzz bass to perfection.

As mentioned, a good variety of songs are covered, from opener "Persecution Mania" going right into "Outbreak of Evil", they cover the whole spectrum of what they'd done and remake those clunky and sloppy older songs like "Blasphemer" into roaring engines of destruction. The Motorhead cover of "Iron Fist" does feel a bit perfunctory, though, like it was tacked on for the hell of it. Coulda done with another original, thank you, boys. The audible chants of "Bombenhagel!!!" are finally rewarded, of course, with a ripping run-through of the song in question to end the set.

Perfect? No, not quite--the loose drumming and lazy Motorhead cover detract from this album. Other than that, this needs to be in your collection, and I don't normally endorse live albums by anybody. This is a perfect snapshot of where these seminal Deutsch thrashers were at this time and for that reason alone it needs to be in your home wrecking your speakers. Hunt it down, it will be worth your time and money.

Well, after 30 years of collecting Metal, Punk & Hardcore vinyl I never thought this day would come. After switching to CD in the 1990s and then to MP3 in the 2000s, I can't justify keeping my collection any longer so I offer it to you. I started collecting back in 1982 in the San Francisco Bay area where most of my records were purchased new. I moved to Florida in 1986 and still collected up unto the late 1990s.

I have always treated my records with the most care. None of my original records are less then very good condition and most are in near mint condition. I did collect many used records over the years and also got many from friends that did not treat them so well. Those records will be described in detail as well. All records will be shipped with a protective plastic sleeve, vinyl removed from cover to protect spine during shipping and 12 inch records will be packaged in a LP designed cardboard mailer. 7 inch records will be packaged in comparable cardboard packaging. Only the best for my old records!

My grading:

MINT (M): New in original un-opened packaging, perfect, never played and like new in every way. I probably won't have many of these since all were played at least once & covers moved around for decades.

NEAR MINT (NM): Opened and played very few times, only very minor visual imperfections. Super clean cover.

EXCELLENT (EX): Played lightly and well cared for, a few light scuffs. Cover may have a few creases or imperfections. Still a very clean record and cover.

VERY GOOD (VG): Has scuffs or light scratches and noticeable signs of heavier wear and handling. Cover may have more visible wear, small rips or small seam splits.

GOOD (G): Has many scuffs and scratches, signs of heavy wear and handling. Cover shows obvious marks, creases, rips, tape, seam splits or wear, labels ripped or written on. Basically not cared for. (these records were the ones I purchased used or received from friends).

+/-: If I have a hard time putting either record or cover into a solid grade.

I am happy to offer a refund where the item does not match my description.
