Description
SOMEONE COULD WIN A POLAR BEAR LP Record JOHN CIARDI
WoW!!!.... Offered is SPOKEN ARTS SA 1102 LP RECORD for a release entitled SOMEONE COULD WIN A POLAR BEAR AND OTHER POEMS written and read by JOHN CIARDI
Here is a delight... noted American Poet and Etymologist John Ciardi (1916-1986) reading his own Children's Poetry on this early 1970s Spoken Arts produced Long Play Record.
Record is not dated but the title poem was published in 1970 and the cover illustration (by Ted Smith) is dated 1971. Directed by Arthur Luce Klein. Record is not marked Monophonic or Stereo but being a spoken word performance it may be in Mono.
From the back cover: "The ultimate joy of Ciardi's poems for children is that they are not children's poems at all. They are not "cutesy" in tone or juvenile in subject matter; they do not smile condescendingly- but rather approach the child on equal footing." Also: "Ciardi assumes something quite important- that children are capable of sharing his joy in the language, and quite willing to play along with his word games. And, finally, what never fails to involve children is Ciardi's sense of humor. It is sophisticated enough so that a child feels he is being let in on an adult joke- but simple enough for plain fun."
