Description
VERY RARE This volume of 3 records were made from the last recordings of Jewish songs to be smuggled out of Germany during WWll. The records themselves are in very good to excellent conditions. The case shows age and has discoloration.
H. Lewin was the owner of a bookshop who found record making equipment from the Jewish company, Semer. Lewin surreptitiously recorded the songs from the banned artist Josef S. Lengyel who was a tenor from the Berlin Staedttische Opera. "In 1936, Lengyel managed by devious means to escape from Germany. He came to America, bringing along his master recording and a copy of Lewin's catalog."
These records were made in New York from those recordings somtime in the 1940's. Please see the photos for more information and history.
