(Condition: records are near mint; album covers are in mint condition; box is near mint, deluxe booklet is in fine shape. ||| A quartet recorded 10/10/62 w/ Henri Renaud (p), Michel Gaudry (b) & Philippe Combelle (d). /\ Four selections include Mighty Low / Don’t Blame Me / Black Coffee / We’ll Be Together Again. \/ Seven tracks recorded in April, 1963 by George Arvanitas (p/org), Rene Thomas (g), Pierre Michelot (b) & Combelle: Blues Pour Flirter / Once In a While / Day Dream / St. Louis Blues / Early and Later (parts 1 & 2) / Don’t Get Around Much Anymore. And then sans Thomas, On Green Dolphin Street / God Bless The Child / This Can’t Be Love. ||| Not much to say – Criss at the top of his game, Arvanitas, Rene Thomas, fine batteries. Recorded between his Imperial sessions and the Prestige years. Great stuff in a marvelous boxed set – really the way it should be done. It’s a truly splendid multi-page booklet w/ lots of great pictures.
A true collectors copy while this quality is very hard to get. Probably once in a lifetime.
