Highly collectable release from audiophile label, Classic Records. This title was mastered at Half Speed from the original source master tapes. An all-analog, tube amplification process was used at every step, then pressed on high quality virgin vinyl, one sided at 45 RPM, for the highest possible audio quality.

Classic Records used a proprietary vinyl, in this case, at 180 gram weight, that guaranteed virtually no surface noise and sonically superior dynamics.

In short, this is as good as this album is ever going to sound on vinyl. Don't wait... this four record set was a limited edition (only 500 pressed!), is long out of print and growing harder to find - especially in this brand new, still sealed condition.

Review: If Sonny Rollins had continued in this direction, he might not have been eclipsed by John Coltrane as the most influential tenor saxophonist. This album is one of David S. Ware's personal favorite jazz albums.

Sonny Rollins has been deemed by critics to be at his best live (after seeing him live, I would support this). Also, with the members of Ornette Coleman's groundbreaking quartet (except of course Ornette) backing him up, the album has the same manic energy and unpredictability of early free jazz. It still is grounded in hard bop, because Sonny Rollins while wanting to absorb the "new thing in jazz" was still somewhat of a traditionalist. However, this is his most creative and innovative playing and is a standout among the myriad of albums he has recorded. ~ Amazon
