"STITT'S BITS" - - Sonny Stitt Quartet and Septet - - UK orig: mono issue, Esquire 32-078. - - SENSATIONAL!!!!!! ANOTHER MAGNIFICENT COPY OF THIS VERY, VERY RARE ESQUIRE RELEASE OF THE GREAT SONNY STITT!! - - The flipback cover, once again, is in AS NEW condition, with no edge or corner wear, with a pristine white back and embellished by Harry Peck's great cover art!!! - -The disc, apart from a very , very light spindle mark on each side, is practically unplayed and it too is as new!!!! - - The labels are near perfect and the famed RVG is in the dad wax, this too is the finest copy I have seen of this record since the day they were issued!!!!! - - Sonny has assembled 3 different quartets here, but each one, as is the septet he has used for one track, is a colection of giants of the genre and the era. The first is Stiit, backed by the great Kenny Drew on piano, staunch unshakeable Tommy Potter on bass and the magnificent Art Blakey is on drums. The second, the fabulous Duke Jordan takes the piano Spott, Gene Wright is on bass and the immaculate Wesley Landers has the drum chair. Thirdly, Stitt leads the prodigy pianist Junior Mance and is once again accompanied by Wright and Blakey on bass and drums respectively. For the Septet, appearing regrettably on only one track, "Our very own", Sonny leads a juggernaut of power and prowess of musicians. The front line is, Bill Massey on trumpet, Mathew Gee's brilliant trombone, Gene Ammons on baritone, the rhythm section, once again Mance, Wright and Landers as per the second quartet. The quartets trax are: "Nevertheless", "Count every star", "Nice work if you can get it", There will never be another you", "Avalon", After you've gone", "Stairway to the stars", "'Swonderful" and "Jeepers creepers". - - This is an album of constant excitement, drive an real straight ahead jazz!!!! - - ALL members acquit themselves superbly and the ensuing session is AWESOME!!!!! - - DON'T MISS THIS COPY!! - -I REPEAT, THE CONDITION IS MIND BLOWING, I DOUBT YOU'LL EVER SEE ANOTHER AS GOOD!!!! - -
