Description
MELLOW BLUES (October 1959)
Sonny Thompson first recorded for Sultan Records in 1946, but would become a huge R&B hit artist in the late '40s with some of his recordings for the Miracle Records label. He racked up two #1 hits right off the bat in 1948, and followed with this double sided hit of "Blue Dreams" and "Blues On Rhumba" in March of 1949.
In the early '50s he would move to King Records and have more hits under his own name, as well as play piano on many, many other releases for King, Federal and Deluxe Records, both hits and otherwise.
This record finds him in 1959 with a full set of sixteen sides for King under the title “Mellow Blues.” Some of the tracks go back to 1951 (the title track), and stretch thru the next seven years. This is a remarkable original pressing in superb condition, and even more rare is that it’s a King jacket that’s not got enormous seam splits. ALL SEAMS PERFECT and high gloss on the cover. This is King 655.
