THE VALADIERS - I FOUND A GIRL
This unbelievably scarce record never comes up for sale. Motown began in
1958 with Berry Gordy selling records out of the back of his car. The first
four official UK Motown releases were on the London label. Then four on
Fontana. Then nineteen on the Oriole label. Of those, this record, along
with the disc by Mike And The Modifiers, qualify as the two rarest British
Motown releases of all time.
The Valadiers were Motown's first attempt at blue-eyed soul. There has been
a couple of other white singers, but none so deliberately aimed at their own
market. Lead singer Stuart Avig went on to find Northern Soul fame as Stuart
Ames, with the classic Detroit stomper "Angelina, Oh Angelina".
This disc has resided in legendary Motown collector / Northern Soul DJ Ian
Levine's collection for the last thirty five years, since his schooldays,
when he made it his goal to collect every Motown release ever put out in the
UK.
The record is in lovely condition, the only detriment being a missing centre
which was replaced with an old fashioned 1960s "spider".
This is probably the first time in history that this amazing gem has ever
turned up on e-bay.
