Description
Original 1969 UK LP Pama PMLP 8 'Soul Sauce' featuring 'Various R&B Artistes' so was back in the day when R&B was a catchall for various genres of music. But if I had to describe the music here it would be soul with a beat.
Great colourful sleeve with a plain rear but laminated front that extends back around to the three flipbacks thus protecting the spine also. I can't tell of any rips, tears, seam splits, writing or price sticker problems. But blemishes include some lamination shrinkage and other creases due to the passage of time. The corners show rub wear as does the mouth of the cover. And the plain back has some grubbiness, stains and ringwear, all as shown in the pics.
So it's a strong solid sleeve with some cosmetic etc. issues and I give it 6 /10 for condition and essentially for the visual aspect.On to the flat and shiny vinyl which reads 147g on my scale so is of a nice medium weight.
NIce clean labels with evidence at the spindle hole of not more than a few spins of the disc. Note that the 'spots' shown on the label of Side One are ink spot blemishes left over from the factory printing of the label itself and not someones blood or porridge stains!
The machine inscribed matrix numbers etc. on the dead wax run-offs are PM+LP+8+SP+A & PM+LP+8+SP+B for Sides One and Two respectively.
Angling the record at the window and inspecting it in daylight it looks pretty clean. Next, under a bright light source I see some light scuffs and hairlines but nothing to lose sleep over. So visually I'm giving it 7.75 /10 so there.
The inner sleeve is a poly-lined jobbie which has protected the record over the years.
Finally, as I type this I'm play testing it on my Linn / Naim hi-fi system. And it plays well with satisfying clarity and definition. On the dead bands between tracks it's quiet in the main which is always a good sign. Yes, a few tics and pops and maybe the same on one or two tracks (could be dust) but to my ears it sounds pretty fine. So aurally I'm plumbing for a conservative 8.5 /10. Note: Soul Man by Reco is a delicious track!
