"This Town Ain't Big Enough for Both of Us" is a song by American pop band Sparks. Written by Ron Mael, it is the opening track on their third studio album Kimono My House (1974), and was the lead single from the album. Although it did not chart on the Billboard Hot 100, "This Town Ain't Big Enough for Both of Us" achieved major success in Europe, peaking within the top ten of the charts in the Netherlands, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. In the latter country, the song peaked at number two on the UK Singles Chart, where it remained for two consecutive weeks.
This iconic song is now fifty years old ~
Songwriter Ron Mael actually had wanted all six verses on the premiere release of their April 1974 debut in the UK as a single. But Island record producer, Muff Winwood only wanted five.
This is verse 6 that "Muff" edited out:
"Choosing, the girl is choosing Between the man who's well-to-do and the man who is you Heartbeat, increasing heartbeat There is a panic-selling jamboree Now he's a liability This town ain't big enough for the both of us And it ain't me who's gonna leave"
Celebrate 50 years of SPARKS with a studio and live recording of THIS TOWN AIN'T BIG ENOUGH FOR THE BOTH OF IS - just the way Ron intended
Also included in this compilation is a history of Sparks' Island Records hits and misses done at their very best LIVE
