Description

Sparks- Kimono My House 1974 Original Monarch Promo Pressing with Alternate Island Palm Tree Labels.
Side A Runout:  ILPS 9272-A MR(circled) (Artisan logo) Δ19079(1) Side B Runout: ILPS 9272-B MR(circled) Δ19079-X(3) (Artisan logo)  (See Pics)
This is the Discogs runout description for Monarch pressing which produced the only Promo versions of original US release.  The only difference on Discogs is that they show Side B with "X(4)" in the runout, vs. "X(3)" on this record. This version has the original plain inner sleeve with no picture/lyrics inner as with non-promo versions.
Also, if you look at ALL other Island Palm Tree labels they show Kimono My House above Sparks and centered on label with song titles showing both directly above and below the spindle hole.  The Monarch pressing shows Sparks above Kimono My House on the Left side of label with all song titles in one block underneath on the left side.  Also, noteworthy is the Island records address on label.  Monarch/promo version says: " Island Records, 7720 Sunset Blvd. Los Angeles, California 90046", whereas the 5 other "Palm Tree" versions say only: "Island Records, Inc. L.A. Calif. 90046"  Address on Monarch/promo version is a mix of Caps/lower case whereas all other US versions are Caps only.
Check Discogs and you can compare all 6 1974 US Palm Tree Pressings.  The Monarch labels are much different.
RECORD: Visually, Side A looks NM, Side B has a few scuffs but sound on both sides is a strong VG+, with just some occasional surface noise in between tracks.  Disc has been cleaned with my Spin Clean Disc Cleaner, but a sonic cleaning should really improve Side B. Great soundstage and plenty of bass, which I have heard is a problem on some pressings.
JACKET:  Not so good here....Good+ to VG.  Some issues on both top and bottom seam and a crease in lower right corner on back of jacket.  Original plain paper sleeve included, but I have the disc stored in a Mofi-style anti-static sleeve to protect it.
I bought this album new at Licorice Pizza in Long Beach, CA when it was released in 1974. Makes sense that this is a Monarch pressing as their pressing plant was just up the freeway in LA.  I had no idea who Sparks was at the time, but I was intrigued by the iconic cover picture with no title....just the two curious Kabuki girls with the strange expressions.  I was into David Bowie's glam rock, but the Sparks stuff never really resonated with me. As a result, album has been played only a few times over the years.
A rare pressing of the album that really got Sparks going and a classic example of early glam/art rock. Listed in Rolling Stone's Top 500 albums.
Let me know if you have any questions and GOOD LUCK!
