Up for bids is an ULTRA Rare Test Pressing of Foghat  ????  Boogie Motel LP ???? This is the Winchester Pressing Plant's Test Pressing used by Sound Engineers, Pressing Masters and Marketing Executives to verify the Sound Quality and approve the disk for Mother Plating. This is in fact, the ONLY documented Test Pressing I can find for the Boogie Motel LP release
I acquired this from a friend who was a Record Exec for Columbia. Research shows that some of these TP's came with an 8 X 10"  Black & White promo photo of the 4 band members (not included in this one).  My buddy printed a "copy" of the LP cover art & spec / info sheet to track this specific pressing. Dated August 16, 1979 more than a month before the official release date. He also printed a copy of artwork for the Inner Sleeve drawn by band leader Dave Peverett. These inserts are NOT factory produced, just used for his notes. Should not be considered part of the actual test pressing.

People list a LOT of records on eBay as Rare, but this one absolutely is. Literally...only a hand full of these Test Pressings were ever created. I doubt there are more than 10 of these that exist in the entire world. Wiki states "White Label Test Pressings were produced in small quantities (usually under 5) to evaluated the quality of the disc before mass production".   This copy has absolutely STELLAR Play Back quality. I didn't hear a single tick on the intros or throughout the complete play back. Fantastic Audiophile quality, strong loud dynamics, crisp and bright end to end.

Condition Vinyl:  EX+ to Near Mint. I rarely grade an open record as NM but this one has stunning play back

Condition Jacket:  VG+   Small corner nicks, a small vein on jacket back.  This is a Generic Standard Plain White cardboard jacket (that most TP's came in) with no artwork, markings or signatures.

Vinyl Grading (Based On PLAYBACK Grading if not sealed):

M            Record is still sealed in the original factory shrink wrap without any defects.

NM         Record looks close to new with no marks

EX          Record May have a few light scuffs or very light scratches which should not affect sound quality

VG+        Record may have a few scuffs or light scratches which may result in some minor surface noise during play

VG          Record has clear wear on the surface. Surface noise may be present, including pops and crackles but the record should play through nicely without any skips

Jacket / Picture Sleeve Grading:  

M            Record is still sealed in the original factory shrink wrap without any defects to the jacket or picture sleeve

NM         Cover looks close to new with virtually no signs of wear.   Most records in this category are still in the original (opened) shrink wrap.

EX          Cover has some slight wear but is still in excellent condition overall.  All seams are intact.

VG+        Cover has signs of wear like scuffing, ring wear, writing or price tags.  All seams are intact.

VG          Cover suffers from corner dings, folding, significant scuffing, spine splits, and/or discoloration.
