                    KARTHAGO

              Rock  &  Roll  TESTAMENT

                        Germany - BACILLUS - 19201

STONE MINT VINYL !!!

Original 1974 first pressing on the highly collected German "Bacillus" label in fantastic window-designed gimmex gatefold cover by hardrock act Karthargo ... here's their story:

Kathargo were a German (Krautrock) band who gained a lot of popularity with a powerful "electric-rock' sound, issuing 4 albums in the early '70s. Probably no other Karthago album was as extensively and intensively prepared as this one with songs composed by masterful guitarist Joey Albrecht. This 3rd album of Karthago was a big step foreword, produced in London and with the participation of Glenn Cornick, famous bass player of Jethro Tull.  Karthago developed strong self compositions with a hardrock style more-so than the freaky progressive styles performed by most other Berlin acts. Heer there are also complex shifts in their sound that veer off into jazz and funk elements, always backed up by excellence hardrock musicianship. Especially with Joey Albrecht - who was greatly influenced by Jimi Hendrix - had a real rock star appeal.

Karthago were formed by Joey Albrecht and Gerald "Luciano" Hartwig. Back in 1968, they performed as The Blues Machine. In 1970 they were joined by percussionist Bolivia Thomas Goldschmidt. Soon after, they signed a contract with BASF on the album. "Rock & Roll Testament" was released in a colorful and expensive die-cut gatefold cover ... The generously designed cover incorporated the best of colorful and psychedelic album art that hinted of Santana - and actually surpassed them. Karthago's elegant sound contains superb heavy guitar and heavy vocals by Joey Albrecht recalling often both the Jimi Hendrix Experience and progressive funk/psych band Funkadelic. Highlight tracks are Hard-Lovin' Woman, Creeper and Sound In The Air, among others ... Vocal are in English...

Personnel:
- Joey Albrecht - guitar, lead vocals
- Ingo Bischof - organ, vocals
- Wolfgang Brock - drums, percussion, vocals
- Tommy (Thomas) Goldschmidt - drums, percussion, vocals
- Gerald Hartwig - bass, percussion, vocals

• A: Hard-Loving Woman 3:37 We Gonna Keep It Together 5:15 Now The Irony Keeps Me Company 3:20 Rock 'N' Roll Testament 4:23 The Creeper 4:04 B:  Back Again 4:04 Sound In The Air 5:10 Highway Five 3:45 For Kathy 3:02 See You Tomorrow In The Sky 3:50

CONDITION: The cover: The stunning gimmix designed window gatefold cover is in very clean near M- (would have been rated MINT but sadly their is an "X" on back cover = see photo #2 for that)... Otherwise one of the best copies you can imagine ...  it is very delicate and usually found with rips and tears, but here, besides the back cover, it's like off the new release rack in 1974! No bends, no split seams and full rich colors ...

The vinyl: all clean and clear to the point of maybe unplayed = MINT = flawless and with clean Bacillus labels ...

keeper!

A GREAT ADDITION TO ANYONE'S COLLECTION !
