Spector, fronted by indie journeyman Fred MacPherson, set their stall out initially as champions of an unapologetically stadium-bound brand of indie rock, and if their reality hasn't quite matched their aspirations, it hasn't been for want of trying. Moreover, 'Moth Boys' show they have skill and wit to match their bombast - buoyed by MacPherson clever lyrics and lugubrious baritone, it makes unlikely bedfellows of a sepulchral Interpol-esque tone and upbeat '80s synth pop, resulting in a catchy and addictive confection by a band whose choruses and sparkling arrangements are equal parts brash confidence and understated class.
