THE SPENCER DAVIS GROUP
" AUTUMN '66 "
Released in 1966 on FONTANA RECORDS,
Catalogue number TL 5359
The LABELS are in excellent condition with just the usual spindle trails around the hole, visible on these matt finish FONTANA labels in angled light.
The MATRIX numbers are; Side One 687397 1 L // 1 v 420 , Side Two 687397 2 L v 1 420 , indicating that this is one of the original MONO FIRST PRESSINGS !
VINYL
The VINYL is in NEAR MINT condition with a beautiful sheen and only a few very very light paper sleeve scuffs, barely visible unless held into bright light.
I have just play checked this LP and the sound is MAGNIFICENT, as you always get with these early MONO pressings, a rich punchy bass, piercing harmonica not to mention Steve Winwood's, Ray Charles influenced, vocals. Just had to play it again, even louder !!! Side One play grades MINT on my system; Garrard 401 turntable with SME 3009 arm, Shure V-15 type III Cartridge going thru a Leak Varislope Pre-amp and Leak Stereo 50 Valve Amp then out of a pair of B & W DM 640 Speakers. BLISS !!! Side Two also play grades MINT, no clicks, pops or skips, SUPERB, this REALLY IS BLUE EYED SOUL AT IT'S VERY BEST !!!
SLEEVE
The front LAMINATED SLEEVE has a few small creases near the spine, although the spine itself is straight and firm with very little shelf wear (see photo). The unlaminated back cover has very little age discolouration. There is no noticeable shelf wear to the edges, just a bit on the corners, it certainly warrants an EXCELLENT grading (see photo). LP comes in it's ORIGINAL poly lined INNER SLEEVE, also in EXCELLENT condition, with a little age discolouration, and the usual corner crease that came with the initial factory packing.
