Description
This is one of my favorite prog albums from Canada. The capsule review from GEPR says this about The Spirit of Christmas’s Lies to Live By: “Their earlier styles were influenced by the West Coast psych sound, but Lies to Live By, while still in the psych vein, had a unique sound with Mellotron and song structure lending some progressive [and folk] overtones. Strongly dominated by Preston Wynn's smooth, powerful tenor and Rob Bulger's frantic lead guitar, their conceptual album explores the darker side of the human psyche. Dashes of piano can be heard throughout. There are three shorter songs (3-4 minutes) and three longer songs (8-11) minutes. Both showcase the band very well, exploring the fear of war, frustration and emptiness, dehumanization and loss of freedom, and the human puzzle in general. This is a very strong album, and one most pysch fans and many prog fans would thoroughly enjoy.” Dreams, Fantasies, and Nightmares adds “Lies to Live By is really their finest moment and arguably one of the best albums to come out of Canada in the 1970s. Very imaginative progressive rock. Almost every track is excellent and this album is strongly recommended.” An essential album, I’d say. Released in Canada on Daffodil Records in 1974, this comes in a gatefold cover and includes the 4-page insert. The cover is in F (plenty of cover wear) and the record is in F++ condition. If you’re looking for a mint copy (which would sell for much, much more than my starting price), this one obviously isn’t for you. On the other hand, if you want a nice play copy, but one that does have surface noise (that much of the time is hidden by the music), this copy will do just fine! Payment and Shipping Information
In the U.S., postage would be about $4.77 for one LP sent by Media Mail. Package insured upon request. Winners outside of the U.S. will be notified of postal fees, but an approximate cost for one LP to many countries is $16.20 by airmail (but Canada and Mexico will be less than this for most single LP packages). If you bid on and win more than one item, you WILL save on postage! Note: I do not gouge on postage and packaging costs. Record will be carefully packaged in a strong, oversized LP mailer. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. E-mail: david.o@jjldj.com.
International Customers: Please DO NOT use the Checkout (Pay Now) option, or you may end up paying more for postage than is necessary, as eBay tends to calculate shipping and handling on the high side. Instead, wait for me to contact you with an invoice and the correct total amount due. I will do my best to contact you within a day of the auction’s end. Note: Import duties, taxes, and charges (typically collected upon delivery or pickup) are the buyer’s responsibility and are not included in the item price or shipping charges. Please check with your country’s customs office prior to bidding/buying to determine what these additional costs will be.
