Another awesome original 1969 album!  From my personal collection in absolutely superbe throughout! This album by the late great band 'SPOOKY TOOTH' 1969's Spooky Two LP is generally considered to be the best effort by the group and was the last album release by the original lineup. It included the song "Better By You, Better Than Me", which was covered by Judas Priest. Ridley joined Humble Pie in 1969 and was replaced by Andy Leigh (in time for 1970's album Ceremony) who went on to Matthews Southern Comfort with ex-Fairport Convention vocalist Ian Matthews. The experimental nature of Ceremony received mixed reviews and following its release Wright also bowed out. The core of Harrison, Grosvenor and Kellie struggled on for one more album, aptly titled The Last Puff, completed with friends from Joe Cocker's Grease Band!! In my opinion a grosly underated album Spooky Tooths version of the Beatles classic ''I Am A Walrus'' is awesome giving the track a real progy raunchy sound!

Spooky Tooth was an English progressive rock band from the late 1960s. They faded into obscurity afterwards!

Crucial to their sound was their instrumentation; they were one of the few acts within the rock forum of the time to adopt the twin keyboard approach (both an organ and a piano player) alongside The Band (whose "The Weight" was recorded by Spooky Tooth as a single in 1968) and Procol Harum!

They formed in October 1967, out of a combination of The Ramrods (1960 - late 1963), The V.I.P.'s (late 1963 - April 1967) and Art (April - October 1967). The line-up changed several times, but typically was -

  • Mike Harrison (born Michael Harrison, 3 September 1942, Carlisle, Cumbria) (keyboards/vocals)
  • Greg Ridley (born Alfred Gregory Ridley, 23 October 1942, Aspatria, Cumbria — died 19 November 2003, in Java, Spain) (bass guitar/vocals)
  • Luther (Luke) Grosvenor (born Luther James Grosvenor, 23 December 1946, Evesham, Worcestershire) (guitar/vocals)
  • Mike Kellie, (born Michael Kellie, 24 March 1945, Birmingham, Warwickshire) (drums)
  • Gary Wrigtt, (born 26 April 1943, Cresskill, New Jersey, U.S.) (organ/vocals)

They broke up in the autumn of 1970, however after solo efforts Harrison and Wright reformed Spooky Tooth in September 1972 with a different (and frequently changing) line-up.

The best known member of these line-ups (from March 1973 to September 1974) was Mick Jones (born Michael Leslie Jones, 27 December 1944, London) (guitar / vocals), later in Foreigner and, from February - May 1974, Mike Patto (born Michael Thomas McCarthy, 22 September 1942, Cirencester, Gloucestershire) (vocals) replaced Harrison for the 1974 release The Mirror. The group then split again in September 1974 !

The Vinyl

This is the original  very (very)thicker  and chunky heavier type of vinyl with deeper grooves! Later press were much more flimsier and much less robust!!!

On initial ibnspection the vinyl's playing surface looks awesome and lays  perfectly flat on the turntable! In fact there is certainly (no) marks or scratches that would cause any constant loud clicks or pops at all during the audio play! ,,, still retaining its original sheen from new!! Looking at the vinyl under very strong light,  any marks that could possibly be seen would be sleeve removal marks only and perhapes the odd very light surface scuffs\paper thin scratches!

The Audio

I have played this album at very high volume on a top system! The audio is absolutely awesome TOP! TOP! through out! (no) signs of any distortion or that this has been overplayed at all!! I heard (no) loud constant clicks or pops and certainly (no) skips or jumps! The audio is cristal clear and vibrant throughout! Please note! Please allow for the very very light static crackle\ticks in very quiet places (not) consistant throughout the audio This was played track for track on a top! system at very loud volume! I have had and own many copies of this pressing and this is one of the best that I have heard! It is very easy to be critical about these pressings and from my experiance it is so hard and rare to find a really nice vibrant audio copy of this pressing! THIS SOUNDS AWESOME! SUPERBE SEPERATION,DEEP BASEY FEEL! I would class my self as highly critical please look at my completed listings of records that i have sold of this calaber and you will see that i normally get it right! I will go as far as to say that this audio is truly awesome I would grade at the top on all frequencies at least Excellent plusd to very Near Mint Audio! (minor isolated static/crackle/ticks heard only)

Hear the complete album for yourself in the player above. Actual recording from the vinyl listed

Please note! I always add this disclaimer! I have given my honerst opinion when describing the audio quality! Please allow for the odd static crackle\ticks here and there, (not) consistant throughout the audio! Remember that this is a genuine 46 year old vinyl that would have originaly been played on a 46 year old system!!!

A constant clean before each play is recomended! This has been stored in a case for at least 25 years laying dormant! A build up of dirt and dust in the grooves causes static crackle\ticks a constant clean before each play reduces this and enhances the audio quality!

The labels

These feature the original   pink Island labels with the pink 'i' logo (only 1st press) and are absolutely superbe!  spidering can be seen angled in light!  little if (no) spindle ware the hole is perfectly round.

The Cover

An awesome original 1st press MACNEIL PRESS LTD (unlaminated)  cover! (no) splits or tares!!  Light general storage ware /rubbing to the edges if looked for and light crushing at the spine (nothing too bad in my opinion) light creases only.  This will be very hard to surpass a very flimsy cover normally seen in a terrible state. I would grade the cover at Excellent in my opinion.
