SR 90226, STRAVINSKY “The Firebird” (complete ballet) Antal Dorati, London Symphony Orchestra, FR1/FR3, A1/A1 (Indianapolis) pressing. This is NOT a reissue – it is the original 50+ year old FR1/FR3 pressing. Please don't let the grading on side 2 discourage you. You won't be dissappointed - this is an amazing LP! It is one of the best and rarest of the Mercury Living Presence LPs, and is ranked #17 on Sid Marks’ list of all-time best Mercury's in TAS. The atmosphere and ambiance are without compare. The imaging on side 1 has to be heard to be believed – it is astonishing! The stage is very wide and incredibly deep with tight and powerful bass. This is my own personal copy, and the vinyl surfaces are clean, glossy and overall, very quiet. HOWEVER, there are a few light scuffs, particularly on side2. There are two noticeable tics near the beginning of side 1, and two sets of 4 repeating light tics on side 2. The tics on side 2 (I think) are not caused by scuffs, but rather by two tiny bubbles (or dents) in the vinyl surface near the start of the side. Overall, this is a very nice copy that plays beautifully. It is very quiet except for the tics already noted. The vinyl grading is EX/VG+ mainly due to the scuffs on side 2. The play grade is EX. The labels are clean, but show some signs of wear including a few light spindle trails (see photos). The jacket is clean with no seam splits, but has small corner dings on three of the four corners (see photos). Jacket grading is EX, and the inner sleeve grading is EX. In summary, this is a very nice copy of this amazing golden age recording. Feel free to return for full refund if not completely satisfied. Shipping is free anywhere in the continental US.
