Description
Great condition Kenton box on LP. Super clean vinyl, box and booklet, original owner wrote Xs on the inner sleeves. See my other auctions for more great Mosaic sets on LP and CD! from Chicago Tribune: Make no mistake about it, Stan Kenton's 1950s bands were spectacular. Bombastic, too, at times, but even then worth listening to. Part of the reason was the soloists-people like Art Pepper, Lee Konitz, Maynard Ferguson, Laurindo Almeida, Conte Candoli. And part of it was the arrangers, here represented by Bill Russo and Bill Holman. Russo, who now teaches at Chicago's Columbia College, came up from the trombone section. Holman rose out of the saxes. Both worked with a big, big, punch-you-back-into-your-seat-cushions sound. That, complemented by Pepper's or Konitz's Paul Desmond lyricism of the time, could produce magic.
