Complete with its original poly-lined inner sleeve.

Here is an original 1st UK mono vinyl pressing of one of those very in demand UK 60s Jazz releases recorded by the STAN TRACEY QUARTET titled "JAZZ SUITE".

An excellent original example of this legendary British 60's jazz LP.

This is the original 1965 UK mono 1st pressing with black and turquoise labels and the old style EMI logo on the front laminated Garrod & Lofthouse flipback cover. Lansdowne Series. Matrices are "XAX 2866 - 1U" and "XAX 2867 - 2U" with "1" "R" and "1""A" stampers respectively.

On offer from my own collection is a RARE ORIGINAL 1965 UK COLUMBIA RECORDS MONO 1ST PRESSING LP with Black & Turquoise labels of this landmark jazz LP.

A Jazz Suite Inspired By Dylan Thomas' radio play, released in the classic 1960's Columbia Lansdowne Series. Stan is joined by Bobby Wellins, Jeff Clyne & Jack Dougan for this impressive album, full of masterly interplay between these incredible musicians. Includes the beautifully restraint Starless And Bible Black, the original sixties recorded version in all its glory. This 1965 recording is perhaps the most highly regarded jazz album ever made by British artists! This music is Stan Tracey's definitive work. Since its original release by Columbia it has been growing in stature and critical acclaim over the intervening 45 years. The suite of eight pieces was inspired by characters and turns of phrase in Under Milk Wood, Dylan Thomas's "play for voices", which Tracey knew well. Each piece has a strong, memorable theme and robust harmonies, but the enduring appeal of the whole work lies as much in its tones and textures. Tracey's percussive, full-chorded piano makes a wonderful foil for the tenor saxophone of Bobby Wellins, whose slightly lost, slightly foggy sound dominates the slower pieces, especially the sublime, floating "Starless And Bible Black". The quartet is really excellent, with the lovely tone of Bobby Wellins' tenor sax finding a little more edge than his more mellow recordings. The rhythm section - Jeff Clyne (bass) and Jackie Dougan (drums)- are crisp and clean, and Mr Tracey flows around like a gentle, insistent brook.

Absolutely magnificent and timeless album! There is nothing quite like it anywhere else in jazz. A genuine landmark classic for sure!

This very rare original 1965 UK Columbia label first pressing mono issue lp is totally essential for any serious UK jazz vinyl collector.

MINT (M): The record / cd displays barely any signs of use, if any, with no marks or deterioration in sound quality. Extra items and cover are near perfect.

EXCELLENT (EX): Shows only minor signs of being played with very little lessening in sound quality. The Cover and extras will have some light wear and or creasing

VERY GOOD (VG): Has been played many times but has no major deterioration in sound quality, despite some noticeable surface marks and occasional light scratches. Cover and extras will have normal wear and tear but no major defects

GOOD (G): Has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and any extras may suffer from folding, scuffing, split spine, discoloration etc.

FAIR (F): The record is still just playable and has considerable surface noise and may even jump. Cover and contents will be torn stained and/or defaced.

POOR (P): The record will not play properly. Covers badly damaged or partly missing

+ or - : Indicates slightly better (+) or slightly lesser (-) condition than main grade
