This week I am offering some superb condition original and / or best pressings of jazz lps, and will list more if the response is good.
1st anywhere pressing UK STAN TRACEY QUARTET Jazz Suite LP 1965 true mono 1st Press. A lovely album, the playgrading was pure pleasure throughout.
The AMG Review:
"this is the 1965 UK Columbia Lansdowne stone classic, the highlight of the excellent Pianists composing career, a work up there with the great Prestige/Riverside Monk lps that inspire the playing style so prevalent throughout. Although less well known, the three other musicians shown to the sleeve front are also in five star form. I am reliably informed that the American musicians arriving to play at Ronnie Scotts back then were more than pleased by the quality of musicianship from the house pianist and whichever rhythm section he chose to go with him when Stan was house band leader at the club. Hearing this explains why that was so. All these works are composed by Tracey, and he pips the rock world to a degree by having such a well shaped Suite tailored to fit an album, two years before Sgt Peppers. There is not a wasted moment or duff track to this five star lp, a high point of British Modern Jazz of any era."
Cleaned on a professional wash and vacuum cleaning machine. I used art du son fluid with distilled water. It has played without interference of any kind on my high end idler table with a proper modern mono ortofon cart. Clear as day Piano drums, lovely true bass, pleasing sax tone, a great sound. Great sound suggests this has not been played to death, as does the visual condition, a single short fine scuff under a bright light, nothing feelable, no interference in playback.
Record Grading: mint minus, played near mint after being cleaned, played on an ortofon mono cart. Such a delightful lp, must have been over a decade since I played it, fell in love all over again with this. The earliness of the pressing had a definite effect, as steam issues of other stuff has left me cold. Master tapes do not last all that well on material of this age.
Sleeve Grading Excellent some light dirt to rear, see the condition grade, but basically no splits, pen, creases, no liquid stains, not musty. The record is now in a new inner since the clean, and the two parts are housed in a poly outer and ready to be sandwiched for safe posting.
