RARE FACTORY SAMPLE - NOT FOR SALE STICKER
For sale today are some more rare and extremely rare LP's that were the property of a reviewer for one of the country's leading provincial newspapers. As a reviewer he would receive factory samples and first issues from all the major record companies. All of these will be first pressings as witnessed by the matrix numbers listed below.
A lot of these records which play brilliantly were issued in tiny numbers - remember back in the late 1950's the jazz market was extremely small, and the market for American artists even smaller. So there was no need to press records in large numbers.
What a lot of people forget is that here in the UK there were NO commercial radio stations and the 3 national BBC stations certainly did not play this music. Exposure was therefore limited and the sales figures reflected that.
Likewise for the blues LP's: these never became popular until a lot of American artists were "discovered" after 1963 when the Stones came back from Chicago and the LP's then issued were in effect re-releases. So original issues are extremely rare. This also applies to gospel records as well...
This is a VERY rare LP (especially in STEREO). Most were issued in MONO and to find one so little played is quite remarkable . "With love from Jazz" is by The Stan Tracey Quartet and is an ORIGINAL STEREO release from 1968. This is a Reviewer's copy and is an ORIGINAL UK 1st Pressing on the 1st Press Blue/Black Columbia record label with "FACTORY SAMPLE "NOT FOR SALE" sticker.The FIRST PRESS matrix marks are YAX 3523-1 with FIRST PRESS STAMPERS "G" at 3 o'clock and "1" at 9 o'clock on side one and YAX 3524-1 with FIRST PRESS stampers "G" and "1" on side two. There can be NO DOUBT that this is an ORIGINAL VERY FIRST PRESS 1968 release,
The record comes with its ORIGINAL EMI picture sleeve inner advertising other EMI acts.
The disc is in absolutely superb condition and has barely been played, after all as a reviewer not only did you have numerous records to assess each week but all your other duties as well. He was also the theatre and arts critic so little time was left to listen to music
The labels are in fantastic condition with only a few wispy spindle marks. There is no writing no tears - all the print is AS NEW. It has the FIRST PRESS "THE GRAMOPHONE CO, LTD" and "SOLD IN THE UK" text. Beautiful round spindle holes testify as to how little this disc has been played.
No trace of any hairlines or paper scuff withdrawal marks on the record which easily plays as EX+ (please read the grading information at the bottom of the page.)
As for the sleeve I think the photos will tell the tale. Easily EX. Over 47 years old now these rarely come onto the open market and almost NEVER in this ABSOLUTELY ORIGINAL CONDITION
with "FACTORY SAMPLE "NOT FOR SALE"
and the VERY FIRST PRESS "G" & "1" stampers on BOTH SIDES.
A simply stunning copy of this rare record!
This record will be hard to equal let alone surpass. Rarely on the market and EVEN RARER in this stunning condition.
