Here is what you are bidding on: TITLE/ARTIST: "Doris Akers & The Statesmen Quartet with Hovie Lister Sing for You" - by the Statesmen Quartet with Doris Akers on the RCA Records label (LPM-2936) in a vintage Promo monaural copy from 1964 . CONDITION OF VINYL: Near Mint (virtually no wear - graded visually). CONDITION OF JACKET: Near Mint (Beautiful cover; very light corner wear; stamp on back denoting "Not For Sale: Promotional Use Only" plus name sticker of RCA representative). RATING BY ALL MUSIC GUIDE: N/A. COMMENTARY BY ALL MUSIC GUIDE: "Perhaps the most pivotal member (as well as its longest-lived) was pianist Lister; not only was the group among the first Southern gospel quartets to introduce piano into their music, but Lister's soulful, ragtime-influenced style heralded a major shift away from the rigid accompaniment of the past -- though an ordained minister, he understood the necessity of updating gospel to appeal to post-war audiences, particularly young people." SPECIAL FEATURES: The most special feature of the album is its remarkable condition. A Promo copy from the era when promos were among the first records pressed, and thus were exceptional in sound and appearance, this record looks and sounds just simply great. Noteworthy, too, is the "nickname" of Doris Akers; she was known as "Miss Gospel Music" at the time of this recording.
