COUNT STEPHEN (a.k.a. STEVE ALAIMO) - Spooky b/w The Redcoats Are Coming
1960(?) MARLIN RECORDS 6103 7” 45RPM
RARE record! Very little info on this one online. No youtube or itunes recordings. Neither song appears to be on any compilation or reissue. No mention of previous sales on ebay, popsike, or discogs.
SPOOKY (credited to Alaimo-Rozier) is a medium tempo rocker in a Huey Piano Smith style with sax, guitar, and piano. This is basically an instrumental track with various ghost sounds and Count Stephen (Steve Alaimo) using an Alley-oop (Gary Paxton) type voice, making various voice-over comments such as “I think I’ll go into this here haunted house” “and see what’s running around in there” “who dat in dere?” “what’s that thing over there moving?” “Looks like one of them ghostes and things like...” “Ooh ooh ooh I’m scared!” ”It’s like I have read in them comic books, all them bad things” “oh I hope I ain’t crazy - I betcha I am!” etc. The record label calls this a “VOCAL” but there is no singing.
THE REDCOATS ARE COMING (credited to Rozier) is an up-tempo instrumental shuffle with saxophone lead backed by prominent guitar.
DISC (VISUAL GRADING) = VG-. Scuffs and wear, do not affect play. Record was pressed slightly off-center so the phonograph tone-arm moves slightly side-to-side as it is played. I do not hear any effect on the music from this.
DISC (AURAL GRADING) = EXC. Background noise mostly inaudible once music starts. No distortion to music.
LABELS = VG++.
