STEVE SKINNER ~ SJS A Face in the Dark (MAC J043. Made in Australia 1985. )
homemade acid folk psych with real similarities to Bobb Trimble. Fragile vocals, effects, analog synths, acoustic guitar recorded on 4 track Tascam. Very beautiful and inventive. Trippy lyrics and a mystical feel. The genuine article.
There are also 8x A4 pages of inserts.
Firstly there is a bio page where it's revealed that he's originally from England , toured Europe extensively during 1973-7....where he met his wife Christiana, also a musician... arrived in Australia 1983....
"...in 1985 decided it was time to get serious and with Christiana arranged, produced and recorded the entire album FACE IN THE DARK on a Tascam 244 with the help of friends , 3 effects pedals and an ancient synthesizer. ... the actual recording was produced in the back room of their home. ...... On successful (?) sales of their album they have updated some equipment and are now playing all instruments themselves. They have completed material for their second album and already full of ideas for a third......"
The other 7 pages of inserts are lyrics for songs dated 1986. None of these songs are on the lp. So I would guess this is some kind of promo offering to try and get a deal for the second album mentioned above. Sadly I dont think the 2nd or 3rd lps were ever released.
Make sure you check out the Andy Armstrong and Steve Warner lps.
