PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question. OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In the unlikely instance that you feel the need to open a resolution dispute before working with us, you will immediately be blocked from any further chance to acquire the rare music we present each and every week. Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office. Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has became very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our 8000 plus positive feedback. We use a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Original 1966 first print in TOP shape, glorified with mono big beat production, long favored as one of the best and sought after DC5 albums...
TRY TOO HARD is an album featuring more of their typical punk-edgy element on display, played slightly harder and faster than usual. Hard to believe that 9 of this album's 10 tracks have never been released in the UK! A lot of critics complain that there's too much fuzz on the guitars here but why we like it so much. Not a bad tune in the bunch.
Depending on your outlook, this was either an Dave Clark Five album you overlooked, or hailed as an essential step in their survival after the mid-'60s.
By 1966, the Beatles, and even the Rolling Stones, were using sitars on their records; Brian Wilson was composing concept albums and vest-pocket pop symphonies, and folk-rock was so well established as a commercial music genre that its inventors, the Byrds, were compelled to find some new wrinkles to maintain their edge. In that environment, it was inevitable that the DC5 would allow their music to evolve. From the crisp keyboard chords and lean, restrained guitar, as well as the punchy-hard upbeat tone of TRY TOO HARD there was change in the air from the opening seconds of this LP. "I Never Will" is another cheerful and tuneful rocker with a gorgeous modulation, and "Looking In" is a similarly lyrical piece of rock 'n' roll, driven more by its piano and rhythm guitar parts. Elsewhere are tracks with the pounding organ of prior years. "Ever Since You've Been Away" sounds like a theme from a lost western movie (in fact, the melody and the break are very similar to the theme from Hang 'Em High, written a year later). Overall the album is enjoyable exciting permutation of their basic sound.
